I have the 2005 touring MDX, with Navi.
Tonight the CDs stopped working. The player acts like there are no CDs present, even though I know there are 6 in there.
I tried to eject and even load, but nothing works. I'm not getting an error code, but the CD indicators are all blank as if there are no CDs in there.
It's worked fine in the past, no jams. I did a reset and entered the radio code, but no luck getting the CDs to recognize.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

A 2005 should still be under warranty. Take it to the dealer.
Why is it that so many people on here start threads asking what they should do about a problem on a vehicle that is under warrant?
MDX-BLN I am not picking on you. There just seem to be so many of these type threads started. If you vehicle is under warranty it is the dealers responsibility to correct it.
Right now I am having a problem with my home link. I am not going to start asking how many people have had problems and what they have done. I am going to take the MDX to the dealer and say "fix the problem." That is all there is to it.
The only time I would not follow this procedure is if I think that the problem is so simple that I feel that I can correct it myself in less time that it would take me to go to the dealer. The exception to this would be if I wanted it to be recorded at the dealer that I had this specific problem.
What do you all say? I am looking for comments on this philosophy.

The reason I asked was if there is a simple fix. The closest dealer to me is over 100 miles away. In doing a search I didn't find anything related to my problem. I don't have a CD code being displayed and I don't think I have a jam. It played one day and the next day it acts like there isn't a CD in there. I hadn't tried to eject any CD's.
I'll probably try and take it to the Honda deal, which is 2 miles away and see if they'll look at it. I think Honda will work on it and charge me, then I can get reimbursement from Acura, not sure though. |

I'd say you answered your own question.
When I first viewed this thread I wondered how long it would take you to say, it's under warranty. Why don't you get a new philosophy (especially since it bothers you so much) and not answer something if you're not going to be constructive. People know when their vehicles are under warranty. This is a place where people come for answers. Many times one of us here will know a simple solution that would save time and the trip. I would bet if you looked back at most of your posts the majority would say, take it to the dealer, it's under warranty. That irks me.
As do people who don't search before starting a thread!
ok off the :soapbox: now. |

Sorry it irks you. However, that is the best answer to many questions.
If you do not like to see that answer I suggest you refrain from reading any of my answers.

Yes, I had best refrain as it's the majority of what you post.
Do you really think people don't know that their vehicle is under warranty? Do you think you are being helpful by telling them their vehicle is under warranty? Do you think that's why people come here? Looking for your sage guidance that their vehicle is under warranty?
It just doesn't make sense George. Think about it. |

I called the dealer and made an appointment to take it in.
I figured I would have to take it to the dealer, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask here in case I got a "I had the same situation and I did.........and it fixed the problem".
I did do several searches on the topic and didn't find my problem. I found a few CD jam threads, but that's not my situation.....I don't think it is anyway.
The dealer told me they had a couple of quick things they would try and if they don't work they will send it off for repair.
I am using the Honda dealer. I talked with Acura and they said I pay the Honda dealer and then fax the invoice and payment backing to the Acura dealer will coordinate the reimbursement.......we'll see how that goes. |

I've had his posts ignored for 2 years and only see them when quoted and am glad to see I'm not the only one who found most of his comments less than helpful. Curmudgeon to the core. |

Of couse that's what you thought. That's why most of us come here. To be helpful, share information and learn.

Sorry. I wasn't flaming you for not searching. I can see why you may have thought that after re-reading my post. That was just a general comment. You have done nothing wrong at all. Sorry for the confusion and do let us know when you have a resolution.

You nailed that. I hung in there way too long. |

UPDATE:
My CD's not being recognized problem started last Thursday night.
Yesterday on the way home from work the TPMS light stayed on all the way home.
This morning the MDX wouldn't start. Got a jump (Acura 1-800 number, worked well by the way). I had a new battery put in and now the TPMS light goes off like it should, and the CD's are back and I can play them! (I guess I'll cancel my service appointment.)
The low battery (which I didn't get any warning on) must have affected the CD's and the TPMS light.
Anyway, if your CD's stop working (aren't recognized as being in the player) you might want to check your battery. |

| My only thought would be, were you able to start the vehicle after this problem with the cd's surfaced? I gather from your posts that you were. It has to take more juice to start the car than to run the cd player. Just a thought. (the devil's advocate in me) |

Good point, yes I was.
It's possible that the CDs coming back is not related to the new battery, but I think it is. I'm thinking that perhaps the lack of juice caused some sort of electronic problem that was causing certain things like the CD to not function correctly. I could be totally wrong but that's the way it appears to me. |

| Just an update. I haven't had any problems with the CD player or anything else since getting my battery replaced. |
