Sticky Poll - Own, Waiting or just looking - Click HERE for Original Thread

It seems like I've been waiting for my MDX forever! (I did start with a wait for a 2001 but when I got a probable summer delivery date, I opted to wait even longer for a 2002). So I was wondering how many of you are like me. Hence the poll. Are you on this site because you own, are waiting or just looking at the MDX?
marne
Mine is on order. I discovered the site AFTER placing the order, and after reading it 'cover to cover' I'm more convinced than ever that I made the right choice.

To keep my spirits up while I'm on indefinite car-hold, I keep current on new posts, clutch my die-cast toy MDX to my chest and coo softly to myself. ;)

Sorry Guys, I've had mine since Xmas day (I was Very Very Good Last Year). Have had a ball ever since-
my mirrors don't weep
my front don't thud
Just fun fun fun:D :D :D :D
But the good news is - IT'S WORTH THE WAIT
wmquan
I can certainly understand the desire to avoid the depreciation hit and hope for a mildly improved 2002 model, but in my opinion, if one extends their 2001 wait for a 2002 wait, one forfeits their right to complain about waiting ;)

I waited over four months for mine, but that was pre-release and most of it was spent poring over the miniscule information available for the vehicle, while simultaneously shopping other vehicles (2nd place ML320, 3rd place RX300). Then we ended up with the first MDX delivered by our dealership. Knock on fake wood, no problems so far.

wmquan,

Of course you're right. I let logic win over passion in deciding to wait for a 2002 (and give me the opportunity to accumulate a bigger down payment)! And it is right about now that I've got some tinges of regret in that decision. Guess I've got about 2 or 3 months left to wait. Made my bed and now I'm lying in it!

I did the same exact thing -- deposit since April, but it's my own fault I don't have one by now. In the last month, I've probably turned down 7 opportunities for an 01 and figure I'll just suck it up until November for an 02.

I've said it before, but... while this is the best site for info, it also gets you (or me anyway) really impatient to just get the thing and start playing....
wmquan
Well, my philosophy is that there's a big difference between wanting a new vehicle and needing a new vehicle. Waiting longer when you want a new vehicle never hurts, especially financially. I'm as cheap as they come, and we would have delayed our purchase if it wasn't for our baby and the fact we only had a 2-door Integra.

That all said, we won't resist teasing you guys ;)
remery
Guys you are just kidding yourselfs!! Here's some reasons why

1. Look at all the fun you are missing that we owners have driving it.http://www.24pm.com/humferier/sac/jump.gif
2. You won't be able to buy a Mahogany one next year and everybody knows it is the most elegant color:cool:
3. Interest rates could go up this fall with any kind of economic improvement plus Alan Greenspan is getting pretty old:eek:
4. No guarantee that the 2002 will have any improvements over the 2001.
5. No pioneering spirit buying a vehicle in its second model year:p
6. Your $600 of Bush Bucks due this month should help with the downpayment or if you lease who cares.:)
7. Your keyboards will short out from all the drool of anticipation everytime you visit this forum.:o
8. Tim might get run over by a bus, then where would buy your accessories.:(
9. The forum might require folks like you to have either a wallflower or chicken for your avatar.:o
10. Us owners will not have to put up with 3 more months of whining about "how you just can't wait to get your MDX after all these months.":D :D

I admit it, I cannot take it any longer. Maybe it's the wait that makes me visit the site so often...Oh, that's another thread. I was going to switch to an 02 but now I am sticking with my 01.:)

I am right there with Remery (except, of course, on the Mahogany:D :D ). I expect to take delivery in the next month. Assuming there is no beautful dark blue:confused: , I will never look back (I hope). Does this mean I can still complain about my wait???;)

It's a rite of passage son. DMor and I both took some abuse in the forum before getting ours so I am just invoking the Golden Rule on this one!!:D:D

If that were true, what fun would we have? :D

I lurked a while on this site back in Jan and Feb, while heavily participating on the Edmund's Town Hall Forums. Officially joined a few weeks before we took delivery.

Hey A2MDXer how do you like the Ravvie? We also have the "L" which my signature does not show! I will fix that soon after posting this. I drove the Ravvie exclusively until my kids started driving; now it is theirs - more or less.
A2MDXer
I like the RAV quite a bit. :) It is underpowered and limited in seating space but otherwise is quite enjoyable. Great as an in-town car, competent in the snow, great for a few mountain bikes and reliable as can be (nothing other than rountine maint. so far). It is amazing how much I can fit in the cargo area of that little "truck". We now have a kid thus the move to the MDX.

You actually got me interested in the MDX. I was ready to get a Highlander but your posts on Edmunds/Highlander forum got me to check out the MDX. Once I sat in it and did my research, the choice was clear.:D Thanks.
saloveku
Well, the numbers have been relatively consistent and I guess what surprises me is the extent to which wannabe's like me who have ordered an MDX represent regular users of this site. 23% of responders have already placed an order!!

Also, I'm surprised that there are not more tire kickers; I know that I was continually referring back to the site before I made the decision to place an order.
wmquan
I'd imagine a higher percentage of shoppers are those who are lurking, may not have registered yet, are uninclined to answer, etc. There are owner-lurkers out there too but often there's a question they have and they'll register so they can post.

Still, good amount of orderers, which is both good and bad (good in that there's continued strong interest, bad because one reason they're waiting are the long order lists).

Couple of thoughts on this one. First, I am not sure how many folks really agonize over purchasing a new car, thus why would they spend a bunch of time surfing user forums to get some facts. Second, automotive user forums are pretty esoteric and I think more people are likely to go to places like Autosite, CarPoint, or read automotive magazine reviews and Consumer Reports. If you don't believe me, try and wade through Edmonds some time - like going to a university library and reading old doctorial theses. (apologies to wmquan but...!:D ) Finally, if MDX owners are anything like the ones that are around the Chicago southwestern suburbs, they are unlikely to bond with other owners. I wave or chirp my horn and all I get back is indifference which may be an indicator that these folks do not share the same vehicular enthusiasm as we forum members.

I think most people just go buy a car w/o a lot of detailed/in-depth research. Amazes me! I will do in-depth research to buy a toaster - drives my wife crazy. And as remery said those that do research read CR, etc.

As I posted earlier I was a big time participant on Edmund's while lurking here. I don't really know why. Edmund's seemed "safer" at the time. We ordered the MDX on Jan 2nd. However, although I registered on Edmund's in Dec 2000, I waited until March to register here.

As I recall one of the first to say hi to me was wmquan, he'd recognized my userid (same on both sites) and chided me (politely of course) wondering were I was.

Perhaps one of my hesitancies was not wanting to deal with the disappointment if for some reason we did not get the MDX. But MDX is here, I'm here and in all honesty I do not have time to go back to the old Edmund's forums. I tried for a while, but not enough time. I'd rather be here.:D

... glad to be of some service. I still love it. Absolutely no regrets.

If you recall one of my major gripes with the Highlander was the price. I have not even kept up to see if deals are available now, but that vehicle is still on my options list if we ever need to replace the Ravvie. We have two teenage boys (one a Freshman in college and the other a senior in HS). Becoming a four car family in the not too distant future is a possibility.

Agreed. I have lost touch with the HL but I think there is still a wait and only marginal price breaks. The HL fit our needs quite well but I couldn't get excited about it for some reason. For another $5K I have (or will have) what I view as a more exciting SUV. For me it was "why spend $32K on a vehicle if I'm not excited about it when I can spend a bit more and be eager for delivery?" That and I could somehow justify the MDX by saying "it's almost like getting the room of a minivan without the minivan".;)

Hey A2MDXer -- just checked out your signature -- looks like your MDX could be born any day now... it could already be alive for all we know.

Too bad Acura doesn't have a website like Dell that lets you see the manufacturing progress:

Being Built
Painting
Packing for freight delivery
On the rails
On route to the dealer

or something. Anyway, congratulations on your near arrival.
