Console compartment heat issue - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi everyone in this forum. I own a 07 Canadian model MDX with tech package. Since purchae I found raising heat in its console compartment. usually 20 minutes after my vehicle pulls out. It feels a little warm near the compartment, but very very warm, if not hot inside the compartment even after the vehicle has been parked. ( I didn't realize this issue until something that I had placed in went bad.) I have called my local service who later on told me that this is design issue associated with transmission design in all 2007 MDXs (and to prove what he said he testdrove a demo car and just found the similar issue with his). So it seems there is apparently nothing I can do to it? Do you guys have any ideas? Any inputs are truely appreciated. Thanks.

This is news to me. It does feel warmer in there but not unusually so on mine. Maybe something to do with the presence of the power outlet in there?

Thank you for reply. It's not an "occasional" heat to mine, and the Acura technician tells me the problem is likely due to the transmission underneath. Now I am concerned because in much warmer days this problem could be severed.

I found this issue last week and it feels warm but not hot.
Haven't noticed / checked if it stays warm after I turn off the engine. Shouldn't be.

I have not noticed the console being any warmer than my Lexus, but I will check it out tomorrow.

I come from a Lexus LS400 too, which didn't have this problem previously. In the new MDX I don't usually feel it's warm inside or out of the compartment until I drive it for 20 minutes or so. The two vehicles dealer test drove both have this issue more or less. Now I have reported this issue to Acura. But they claimed this to be a design problem 2007 year MDX must have, and there is no way they can do to insulate or alleviate out the heat from the cabin.

But I have the following concerns:

1) Where does the excessive heat come from? Does it due to malfunction or inefficiency of some mechanical parts?

2) Given the fact it is winter now it would hardly be an issue for many but in future warmer days it would add excessive heat to the already warm cabin.

3) Just because this is a first-year new generation vehicle that we users must bear with their faults and neglects?

Thank you.

Well I have the same issue but it is just warm in the compartment. I don't see it as a major issue. I wouldn't suggest putting food in there unless you are trying to keep it warm. It does get pretty warm so a bar of chocolate may melt but I don't think it is hot enough to melt wax. All transmission units give off heat so I don't think there are any mechanical issues. Could be a ventilation or insulation issue under the car that traps the heat. Again, nothing for me to stress over.
