Sport running boards versus regular running boards - Click HERE for Original Thread

Can anyone enlighten me as to whether the sport boards might be less wide than the regular boards? I can't find the dimensions online. I had the regular ones installed and am headed back to the dealer since I'm not happy with the fit. They are a little separated in the front and rear trim from the body and I think it looks weird. I am thinking of making them switch to the sport boards.....

The 07 X I bought already had the chrome side-steps installed. I didn't like the look and there was a huge gap between the car and the steps. So, I asked to swap them out with the sport running boards. I'm liking them MUCH better. Matter of taste, I guess. I saw the regular black running boards and they stuck out as much as the side-steps. I've attached a pic for your reference.

I am here at the dealership right now waiting to have the regular running boards removed and replaced with Sport Boards. The service writer and technician both looked at the boards as they were installed and they agreed that they just didn't look right. There seems to be a design flaw and I would strongly advise anyone else not to cosider the traditional style. We compared the ones on my X to the Sport boards on another vehicle at the dealership. No comparison. The regular ones looked like they belonged on a different vehicle due to gaps and the width. The sport boards looked totally proportional and integrated.
At first, they didn't want to make the switch since the boards are not returnable and the dealer will have to eat the cost (they will just put them on a demo, it turns out). But after speaking with the GM, I am in the waiting room while the new boards are going on. Definitely want to spread the word about the regular boards being a poor choice, and potentially an expensive mistake for others. Acura should re-evaluate them.

Design flaw or install flaw? You never know with dealers. I have the "regular" running boards. I did not like the sport (with the diamond plate like texture) nor the chrome side steps. The regular ones are all black and fit nicely, contouring the body. They give it a muscular stance in my opinion. Plus they are actually useful, especially for my 3 year old.

I too have the regular running boards but I can't say that I like them. The reason I went with the regular boards was mainly the wife thought the sports were a joke and not usable for our twins. Well the regular ones are definitely usable. I find getting out of the vehicle to be a pain because the back of your leg hits the boards every time. Also while im loading my girls up in their car seats the shins take a beating if I forget they are there.

With that being said, had I known all of this to start.. Sport boards it would've been for me.
