2007 Creaking sound from rear - Click HERE for Original Thread

Im having a creaking sound coming from the rear suspension area of my new mdx. It only makes the noise when going over bumps or turning. Has anyone had there 07 MDX in for a noise like this?

Update, it gets way worse when you have back seat passengers.

Im also getting a cluck cluck cluck sound that feels, and sounds like its coming from under my feet after backing out of the garage, and putting the car in drive. It only seems to happen upon the car being cooled down and it happens right after the car switches into 2nd gear.

I have not taken the car in for service yet as i was hoping to wait til it needs it first oil change. Has any else had these problems addressed at the dealership yet? Or am i the first, thanks for any information.

The only thing I noticed like many others, that if the tank is fairly full and I go over a bump, I do hear the slushing in the tank.
I haven't heard (yet) suspension sounds.
mesalum
I haven't noticed any suspension noise in the back yet.

But your second query has been discussed already. It appears to be the ABS calibration.

I don't know if we are talking about the same sound that you hear when you go over bump. Mine had a similar sound everytime I go over bump. As it turn out, it was the license plate/frame vibrating against the rear hatch that's producing the noice. I just took down the license plate/frame and give a little bent and problem solved. Just an idea.;)

I have not heard the creaking sound, but I would guess that it could be the end links for the stabilizer bars. Ask the deal to put a little lube on them.
harleehog
I have similar sounds in the rear end but mine is a thumping or knocking sound when going over bumps in the road like it is bottoming out ..I know that's not the case since there is no load or anyone in the rear seat..I thought it might be the spare tire hitting the frame but the tire is snug..quite annoying though..I have not had it checked out yet.. Anyone else have this annoyance?
freightman
I don't have the noises, but if I had them.........
I would check the spare and make sure it is well secured. I would also check all of the equipment stored with the jack and make sure it is not bumping against something. If I could not figure it out pretty quickly, I would just drop it by my friendly Acura dealer for warranty service.

I also have a thumping noise when going over bumps that radiates inside the car(07 tech model). Have checked with dealer and can't find origin of noise. We tried another 07 and it had the same noise. We live in a rural area with less than smooth roads, city driving you won't hear this annoying thud.-- now what?
I had an 03 MDX loved it.

I don't hear the noise and I have an 07 tech model.
This may not be related but there were some complaints about noise from the rear back from the woofer movement in the tech model (I haven't heard these).

I have the same exact issue. I hope someone who also had this and got it fixed can give some info.

Anyone have any leads on this? I'm taking it in to the dealership this weekend to have them look at it. I would like to have some information to pass on about any fixes. Thanks.
keywestmdx
My creaking in the rear was fixed by the service department. It was some part of the rear suspension rubbing. They installed something between the two parts which stopped the noise and it has not returned. Im going back in on next Thursday for the clunk, clunk clunk noise in the front area.

By any chance do you know what the part was that they installed between what other two parts?

I have the clicking sound in the front also. Only when I start or stop. 3-4 clicks, and not tied to braking.

I get the clicking as well. Either when I brake moderately, or in reverse and appears to come from the front and back but not consistently. I have been told it is the brakes and pretty common on the MDX and pilots, but if others are hearing it, I am not sure it is a major problem to worry about.

I only have about 4,500 miles on the truck so far.
SilverSleeper
I had a clunk noise coming from the rear when going over large bumps. I traced it down to the driver's side 3rd row seat belt clip knocking against the pillar. So I moved the clip below the hook on the side panel and no noise since.

I've got the same symptom in our new '07 MDX - the best way I can describe it is that it sounds like a door/hatch that isn't completely shut. Incredibly annoying (of course, none of our demos made the noise).

My '07 Sport developed a noise when hitting bumps after just a couple hundred miles. I was able to trace it to the passenger side exhaust and recreate by jiggling the tailpipe. It had a loose bracket which the dealer was able to fix.

I have a sport model and have recently has this problem. I will try the rear exhaust, but i have traced it to the rear driver side area. Thhe noise is more pronounced when in comfort mode when going over bumps

I too am experiencing a hollow 'thumping' noise when going over bumps with my new 07 MDX. I took the car to the dealer and was diagnosed as a 'normal' sound that was present in other 07 MDX's. Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to drive another vehicle at the time to confirm their diagnosis. I will be returning to my dealer soon to do so.

I am somewhat surprised and disappointed that my vehicle has this noise due to the quality build of this luxury car.

Hello everyone. I am three months into my 07X tech, Aspen white Pearl /w parchment int, bs molding and moorroof wind deflector. While driving over dips or hard bumps, I too noticed the loud crunching sound from the rear-end.

My X was in the shop for one week. Great news, after much checking/rechecking and testing, my service tech and maint crew found and fixed the problem. The rear swaybar/ stabilizer bushings were bad and not seating properly. Both have been replaced and the noise is GONE........

I will have the exact info as-soon-as my SA gives my the complete service write-up and final details.:1:

tmac7 is a happy X-communicatior
sigp228
Absolutely let us know what exactly they wrote up. A scan of your Service write-up would be even better. I am gathering all possibilities to give to my service writer for my next appt.

I still not have found the problem the noise i am having. When either in sport of comfort mode, when you go over a bump, it sounds like a worn out mattress and a clunk together.
MrMDXPower
I have the same problem! The rear suspension is loose. Also have them turn your rotor and replace front & back brakes. That should get rid the problem for now.

clunking noise TSB released:

Thanks for the info. The sound is more like a creaking sound rather than a knock or a clunk. Kinda like opening a door with a dry hinge. But nonetheless I am gathering all info so I will add this to the pot to present to my SA.

I had what appears to be a similar problem that was very pronounced over speed bumps. The tech inspected under the vehicle and found that the spare tire was loose (should have been checked with the initial Pre Delivery Inspection).

They also lubed the left rear bump stops which was probably more of the problem than the loose spare and the noise is gone. The tech who I've used before with my '01 and '04 MDX had to call the Acura Techline support group to find the fix. Initially they checked on the rear strut bolts but they were ok. Hope this helps.

Q: Would this solved the problem for good? Seems like the lube would need a periodic refresh like everything that is lubed. The creaking sound is the first I have ever encountered, it occurs at a standstill when the wind blows hard as well....really odd to me since this has never occured on any other vehicle I have owned, including three prior vehicles with hatch backs.
a_norcal_ksig
If we are talking about a creaking like a high pitch "cricketish" noise when the car vibrates Ive had this happen. After having a friend drive me around while I was in the cargo area I was able to locate the sound and found it coming from the rear latch. I opened the rear hatch and pried the plastic cover up from the underside of the latch mechinism. I noticed a loose bolt and was able to get it tightened without taking the entire cover off.

If we are talking about a clunking, not associated with the brakes when backing up and breaking up (if so check the brake threads), and it dosnt appear to be a rear suspension issue a quick easy check would be the rear "trunk" and jack storage area. I noticed a clanking in the back and was unable to figure out what it was. Took it to the dealer and they wanted to bend me over to figure it out. I opted to have my roomate drive me around in the back again and determined the same roomatefailed to open the jack sligtly in its storage area to immobilize it after he borrowed it. A couple twists on the crank and it wasnice and snug, i then had the roomie drive my ass over to pizza on him for driving me crazy for a week.

Checking the spare and the seatbelts are good ideas as well. Ive found that more often than not the problems are the stupid little things we fail to look out forthat end up being the problem.
sigp228
No its a creaking sound like a dry hinge on a door (you know the horror movie sound).
sigp228
Ok, well I think its fixed. The noise is gone and hopefully it wont return. The service invoice said the following:

Customer states the vehicle makes a creaking noise when going over small bumps

Rear left right spring seat fail
replace seat lubricate seat as well and lubricate rear bump stops

parts:

2 52720-stx-a00 Stopper, RR BU
2 52748-stx-a00 Seat, RR. Spring

That is it. Did not do any bushing replacement but I am sure they gave them a good lube. I tested it on the usual locations that the bumps made the noise and no noise!!!! Hopefully this helps anyone else with the same problem.

YES, I have a 2007 MDX and the creaking starts after I hit a speed bump or something similar, and does not go away until I park it for the night. Did you find a fix I can tell my Acura dealership about?
It also pulls to the right, is mis-alignment normal?
sigp228
See my post above. They replaced the bump stops and seat springs and no squeeking!
Fabvsix
these sounds went away on mine or I'm more deaf......:8:

unfortunately today was the first time I had 5 passengers and my wife was in the 3rd row and I even heard the noises from the front. on the way back I sat in the 3rd row and omg!!!!
sounds like the truck is falling apart, how embarassing....

this is really getting to be ridiculous... my 4th trip coming up to the dealer in 2 weeks of owenrship???

I just want peace and quiet, If I wanted noise, I would have kept my G35, LOL

Actually, all kidding aside, both my M35 & G35, 25k miles on both, and neither one EVER went to the dealer for anything other than oil changes!!!

I love my X to death, BUT it is getting a little crazy with all of these noises/repairs.
I hope this is the last of them!

and it is not excusable because it's a first year of the new model.
Both my Infiniti's were first year of that model and no probs!!

just venting a bit because it's a project going to the dealer, kills 1 hr in the morning and 1 hr picking up.

make sure they check the bump stops and the rear seat springs. Are you going to Rick Case?

yes, Rick Case... At least they have been accomodating so far with every problem I've had....

Is that where you bought yours and go for service?

i printed out 2 TSB's to take with me. can't hurt to show them.

The problem is there aren't any other dealers around here which is strange for S. Fla and the fact that there is an Infiniti on every corner, lol.

They are building a brand new acura closer to me in WEston, on Pines Blvd & Weston Road. that'll help. It looks like it's almost done too.

YES.....I was just going to post something on this!!!
We bought ours in June 07. It's pulling to the right....creaks in the back and I have an airbag system check warning that keeps coming on (they have already tried to fix it once).

The creak drives me crazy. The car sounds so cheaply made. I noticed carpooling boys to school today that it is worse. I'm taking it in this week (9/26) - hopefully they can figure it out. I'll let you know how it goes.
LionSpeed
... What is your X's manufactured date?

Mine is Sep 2006, and not a single problem since day 1. Now is passing 5400K & still running smooth. Especially after the first oil change (done by myself), seems to perform even better & quieter than the break-in period.
Heat00
My manufacture date is 08/2007. tough to explain, I did check that date before I bought mine hoping that since it was late I wouldn't have any problems.

I don't really notice the sounds when it's just me in the car, but I had 5 people the other day and I sat in the third row. Man, it sounded like the suspension was falling apart.

It's going in thursday and the service manager smiled when I had 2 TSB's printed. He knew the problem and said that most of the X's had the problem but that most people don't notice or don't complain. NOt us, lol.

anyways, at least they are giving me a TL-S to drive that day, nice...

That is the new location for Acura of South Florida. They have been great. They gave me a good deal on my X where as Rick Case would only do list price. I never have paid list price. Acura even gave me a price over the phone and said if I could beat it call em back. Great service. Only thing for me is that I live on Coral Springs and although its all highway down the sawgrass-595-turnpike to the dealer, their new location at Pines/Weston will be a great help!
Heat00
sweet. I thought it was a new dealer, isn't acura of south florida on 441 & county line road?

thought this one had a sign saying acura of pines....

anyways, who cares the owner, as long as it's closer to home for service etc, right?
sigp228
Yep, Acura of SFL is on countyline/441. Same owner Craig Zinn. I think they are changing the name when they move the dealership.

We have 1200 miles on the MDX so far, and the clunk noise in the back was driving me nuts. Dropped it off this morning and wife was given a TL loaner. Called me an hour later to confirm the tech was able to duplicate the noise and is working on the MDX. About two hours later was called again, and advised the rear bump stops needed to be lubricated, as well as the spring seats. We could pick the MDX after lunch. Wife went in at 1PM and picked up the MDX all washed and vac'd.

No noise either, which is good. For my first experience with Fountain Acura service we were very pleased. Hopefully other than scheduled maintenance, this will be it.

Lube did the fix...no need to replace....per LV Acura. I had my squeaky MDX in today.
jsonmdx07
mine has that thumping sound from the rear suspension when the car is going over bumps. it goes cluck, cluck, it's kinda annoying since the car has only 1k miles.
Tomba911
...Per Acura Tech Line Summary...." On large or sharp bumps, the rear lower control arm can contact the bump stop and make a creak noise. To minimize this noise, clean the bump stop rubber and apply a thin coat of Shin Etsu grease (#08c30-B0224m) to bottom and interior of the bump stop rubber.

Looks like the new MDX has a major screw up in the design of the rear suspension!

I know this is an old post. But, I was wondering if the creaking has returned for anyone who had the bump stops lubed. I have this same problem. The Dealer replaced the entire strut assembly and now the creaking seems louder. I want to take it back and ask them to lubricate the bump stops, but was wondering if that is a permanent fix. I appreciate any help!
