A little less "Bucky Beaver" looking and gives it an understated look. Took about 30 minutes to tape and 15 to spray. I tried to match the flat black/dark gray bumper but I could not find a perfect match. Oh well.

Edit. The grill matches nicely with the bumper now that I've seen it in the full daylight. It looks very good. Just my opinion.

Looks good - very bold move but wonderful results

From a distance it looks really good. My two daughters thought I was crazy but liked the result. It actually matches the bumper well and looks better - to me. This and the hitch are probably all the customization I will do. The car is nice to drive and a pleasure to be stuck in while in Los Angeles traffic.

Looks good, I like it!

Shleets,
That looks excellent!:29: Do you have another shot from further away?

Shleets,

Nice job. The grill definitely does not look "Bucky Beaver" and has a distinctive OEM look.:29:

Great look ... I'm impressed! Please post a few more pics when you get a chance.

I'll take some tomorrow in the daylight. I've already received some high fives from a few MDX owners I ran into.

I was wondering how this would look and it looks good. Don't like the over-chromed or as you say "bucky beaver" grill. Send more pics if you can.

Excellent paint job here!

I've also enjoyed the photoshop experiments lately.

But in general, I've got to ask - what happens when the gravel starts flying. This front grill is literally in the front line for anything that's gonna fly up from the road before you. What will happen to the look as it starts chipping away from all the impacts.

It's one thing to go through a multi-layered baked on finish, which will still be susceptible to the same impact dings, but I just don't see after market paint jobs holding up after time.

It does looks good and I was wondering how an actual one would look (non photoshop). But I have to agree w/ sobrien as my wife and I were discussing this very thing.

Let us know how this holds up for you over time.

I thought about all those issues but don't think the grill is any more at risk than the front lip of the hood or the headlights. If I had to lightly sand it and recoat it every year it would be easy to do. It is probably the easiest and less riskiest change I personally would do.

I was quoted hundreds of dollars at a body shop and they actually suggested I try it myself. I'd be more upset if I paid big bucks to have it professionally finished and it became chipped. The type of material being painted and not having to sand to bare metal made it pretty easy.

I will keep an eye on it and let everyone know how it holds up in Southern California traffic.

I happened upon a pic in the gallery. Is this front grill stock or has it been painted? This is from user egregorio1's 07 from December. Wasn't sure if different exterior colors had different grills or not...
Shleets
Looks like the stock grill unpainted - just light hitting it perfectly to make it seem gray'ish. Nice wheels and I love the white color.

Looks perfect and matched to the bumper too.

Mine is black color so not sure it works out that good even if I do the same!!!

Looks great on Cherry!!!

What is the paint name and color you used ?? Thanks DanF

It was an outdoor flat black from the hardware store. I think it was ACE brand. Went on very smooth and nice....like butta.

I like the satin or flat black you used. I've been thinking that using the high gloss formal black on the grille of a formal black MDX will make it look like a Cadillac Escalade.

I did the same thing to a mesh grill I bought for my 99 Honda Accord. Unfortunately, over time the black paint started chipping away and I could see the chrome underneath. You should put a couple of layers of a flat clearcoat on it so it would not come off so easily. I ended up having to repaint mine on the accord several times. The clear coat seems to be holding up though.
