hello guys and gals,
Has anyone purchase a upconversion dvd player for your HDTV??? I really don't want to buy a HD DVD or a BLU RAY player. And replace all my dvd collections. The disk for HD and BLU RAY are twice as much as a regular dvd.My tv only goes up to 1080i. For the owners of HD or BLURAY , does it really make a difference? I am afraid if I buy a HD player , The Blu Ray will win the HD format battle. Vice versa goes for Blu Ray. Thx for all the comments or advise in advance. |

The Oppo brand are highly regarded in the Home Theater community. I don't actually own one myself.

There is no comparison between standard def DVD and true high-def content (1080p), even with a world-class outboard scaler upconverting the DVD.
The Oppos are good, upconverting budget DVD players. I believe the Toshiba XA2 HD-DVD player has been receiving stellar reviews over on AVS Forum for its upconversion, which rivals that of high-end outboard scalers. |

So, given that the poster asked for an upconverting DVD player because he doesn't want to invest in an HD or BR yet - are you agreeing with me that Oppo is the best choice? Hard to tell from your post.
BTW - thanks for the info on HD capture in the other thread. Doesn't work in my HT setup but good to know regardless. |

I was thinking of the investment as more in the content rather than the player, which is why I mentioned the idea of using an HD-DVD player which has good DVD upconversion as an option. But yeah, if a $1K upconverting DVD player is not in your budget, then the Oppo is probably the best choice. |
