Hello,

After trying out some of the "white light" halogen bulbs, I've decided to install **real** HID kit in my 2001 mdx. After doing a bit of research, I've surmised that I need to look for a system with the following characteristics:

D2R "9006" Retrofit kit which contains:

2 Philips HID ballasts
2 Philips D2R bulbs - reflector type housing
2 inverter harness - some hondas have the polarity of the plugs reversed
2 sets of velcro

Has anyone purchased and installed such a kit in an MDX?

If so, can you tell me where you bought the kit and if you needed to use the inverter harness?

Installation instructions specific to the mdx would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance

Does the kit have any auto-leveling capability?

That's one of the reasons the MDX didn't get HID's. It's bad enough that the TL has non-auto-leveling HID's -- mounting them higher on an MDX makes auto-leveling much more necessary. It'd be great if your kit had it.

It's my understanding that these systems must have "auto levelers" to ensure they do not shine (blind) other drivers. Does your retro-fit take that into account?

I hadn't yet considered the autoleveling capability.

I have no idea how you might install an autoleveler inside the stock MDX headlight housing.

Wouldnt it be enough to just calibrate the beam so that it stays low and centered enough to keep out of oncoming drivers eyes?

Has anyone out there tried installing one of these HID retrofit kits in an mdx yet?

TIA

Do a search for "HID" and for "Xenon"; there have been a handful of people who installed aftermarket HIDs in the $600 range. I don't believe there are any aftermarket systems with autoleveling, certainly not at that pricepoint. However, many use a "beam correction" pattern to avoid blinding oncoming drivers.

I have not purchased a kit yet, but I have a '02 MDX on order and will likely do the HID kit upgrade once I have the MDX. I checked and found 2 companies making kits.
1. www.hidkits.com. I spoke with William, 866.443.5487 in Dayton, TX. He tells me they have kits to do the low beam and the high beam. (2 kits needed if you do both). The prices he quoted were $550 per kit. If you do both low and high you also need an auxiliary harness for $50. He said he would discount $50 if both kits were bought. He also accepts credit cards.
2. www.hidxenon.com I called these people and could only get a voice mail box. They never returned my call. They will not accept credit cards or personal checks. COD or money orders only. That scares me because it leaves you absolutely w/o recourse if the kit is junk. Just some thoughts for you.
