I'm thinking of buying an extended warranty for my new X, but I'm not sure if it's really worth it. Any thoughts? If you have a warranty, which one did you buy?
My boyfriend's Acuras have always been so reliable that I'm not sure the warranty is necessary. On the other hand, I drive a lot of miles and I plan on keeping this car for a long time. |

We have exactly the same vehicle!
As far as an extended warranty; I bought the five year/100K Acura warranty. For $1,200, I thought it was worth it.
The 2001 Odessey we traded in had well over $1,500 in repairs. Looking at the complexity of an MDX in comparison, it was a no-brainer for me.
Keep in mind though, that a warranty is really nothing more than an insurance policy. Are you a gambling gal? |

I was hesitating on this very same issue, and postponed it until the very last minute, before I reached 6K miles (that's when you don't qualify for the 0 deductible).
But since I plan on keeping my 07 for about 8 years, then I caved in and bought one from Tim at hondacuraworld. I got an 8-year 120K mile warranty for $2100, around $400 less than the local dealer. |

| i got the 8 year 120000 too .. at the time i didnt really think i needed it .. but i knew what tim was selling it for and when the dealer told me that he was gonna sell it to me for $1904 then i just went ahead and got it. still not sure if i really need it after all my brother's 90 integra is still running after 17 years and 260000 miles but i guess it doesnt hurt to have it either. |

| I got a 8yr, 100K also. If you plan to sell prior to 8 years, it's "gold" for the potential buyer - no inspection needed as everything is covered. Also, with all the tech systems in the '07, just 1 glitch during the 8 years will easily exceed the cost of the EW. |

| i got the six year 120K (why are people saying it's an eight year warranty? i thought it was six?). cost me $1800 from the dealer. it was a good deal. like someone said earlier, anything that goes wrong will cost me at least that, so it's absolutely worth it. |

You can purchase different length, miles and deductible levels. Here's one offered by a MI dealer on this site:
Plan code D62
72 months
120k miles
$1,365
If you are into it less than 6 months, you can still switch! |

| Does anyone have a full pricing matrix from a dealer by chance? Also, am I to understand that once my truck hits 6k the prices go way up? |

I just purchased a new 2007 MDX and bought the 6y/100k warranty for 1200.
Dealer initially wanted 2500 :)
He had to talk me into the purchase but now I am glad I made it.
With all the TEch toys, one repair could be hefty! |

| Hi MDX World.. This extended warranty stuff is driving me crazy. I'm not clear on what my money is buying me. Do anyone have a copy or statement regarding Honda's exclusions and inclusions. As many of you mentioned the reason for getting the ew, is because of all the technology in the MDX. I was told that honda's warranty (mechanical backdown) did not cover items under normal wear-and-tear. How much of the 'technology' in this car is actually covered be the ew????? Any thoughts? |

its interesting, the components listed in the link above is not as extensive as what I assumed. The second link to Acura's website talks about Component Coverage but that it varies by dealer ?
I always assumed these manufacturer extended warranties were true extensions of the bumper to bumper coverage of the new car warranty.

I believe they are just refering you to a dealer for full details. The contract terms vary by new and used (over 6K) vehicles, deductibles, and terms (mileage/time). But the actual contract comes from Acura and is the same for everyone for the chosen terms. |

If you have Geico insurance, you can consider their mechanical breakdown coverage which is basically an extended warranty.
Downsides: $250 deductible, max 7 years 100,000 miles.
Pluses: much cheaper. I'd have to double check my policy, but its something like $30 a year.
Of course, you start paying now but only need it after the warranty expires. However, at a couple of hundred bucks versus $1500, I calculated that it would take at least 3 significant breakdowns for the Acura warranty to cash out better. I only wish I could get 10 years on a warranty since that's how long I want to keep the car.
Geico Warranty |

| I had the geico extended plan on my wife's vehicle. We only used it once before hitting the time/mile limit. Note that the $250 deductible is for per event per item. So lets say you need to fix/replace an engine block mount and a shock, the deductible will be $500 and geico will send their own inspector to evaluate the issue. Sometimes they will not cover the full amount if they think its above the their standard fees. Nevertheless its still a good program. Just my two cents! |

I'm moving to the 8yr/120K miles option. For $2065, I think it would take only one bad trans., differential boot, navi, 6 disk changer jam, or any of the on-board computer/ic boards to fail to easily hit the $2K mark. Also, if Acura comes out with a killer MDX in year 5-6 of my warranty, selling a used MDX with factory bumper-to-bumper coverage is money in the bank. |

| This forum is a great forum, I got my MDX over the weekend. Now I am researching for extended warranty (8yr/120K). The dealer where I bought the MDX stated that extended warranty bought outside California can not be honored by State legislation. They know about Hondaacuraworld and curryacuracare and warned me that I shouldn't buy from them. Anybody knows such legislation, especially those who live in California? |

How do you know a salesperson is lying? His/her lips are moving. There are only restrictions in the states of Florida and Washington. And Tim (www.hondacuraword.com) mentioned that while he can't sell into Florida, he does sell into Washington without a problem. Ignore the sales BS and buy online. Here's the restriction listed on the Honda/Acura financial site: Link
Florida residents may only purchase Honda and Acura Care coverage from a Florida Honda or Acura dealer. Washington residents may only purchase Honda and Acura Care service contracts for new and used Acura and Honda automobiles from Washington dealers and select dealers from contiguous states. Contact your local automobile dealer for details.)

Thanks for the advice. I did a little more research and found out California legislation prohibits extended warranty from companies other than the selling automobile dealer . I guess few dealers use these words to say you must buy it from their dealership. Can't find anywhere that prohibits purchasing it from dealers outside the State. |
