Any wind noise with the roof rails? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I'm considering adding roof rails (not sure about cross bars), but I've read that older MDXs had some wind noise issues. Is this a problem with the 07?

I had my rails and crossbar installed at dealer at time of purchase. So I'm not sure how much "noise" was added. Can't say that it adds any noticeable noise though. The interior of the '07 MDX is pretty quite (compared to my '04 MDX).

Yes there is wind noise. But I have the crossbars too. I installed the rails 3 weeks after buying the X and did'nt notice a sound. The sound became noticeable when the crossbars were put on. I could be wrong, but I noticed it more. The wind sounds like a muffled sound of the window being open. Of course, when the awesome sound system is on, you forget all about the wind noise. It's a minor inconvenience considering that the X looks complete with them on and that they are very useful.

The noise is minimum and easily drowned by the surround sound dvd-a or a nice XM channel. The crossbars are a must when adding the rails.

Can you let me know why the crossbars are a MUST ?? I had the rails installed by dealer at time of purchase, but never once considered getting crossbars.

I got the rails 100% for looks and have NO INTENTIONS of every putting anything up on the roof.

Can you let me know why I should go back for the crossbars ??

Thanks,
Beski

Well, I guess if you only got the rails for the looks and have no intention of actually using them, then the crossbars are not a MUST. If, however you change your mind, the integrated cross bars allow you to secure rooftop cargo much more securely.

Thanks for the fast reply. I wanted to make sure there wasn't a saftey or performance issue with not having the crossbars.

(I still make my wife wipe her feet when she gets in my MDX, so I know I will never tie anything to my roof !! :) )

Just tie her to the rails. That way you'll test out their strength and won't have to worry about her wiping her feet all the time! :p

I had them on my 03 & 05 and NEVER I repeat NEVER used them.......It is all for looks I suppose as washing them, underneath etc....is a pain. I like the LEAN AND MEAN LOOK! No running boards, Nothing on top, nothing on the hood except maybe the bra for long travels.....:1: :1:

3 kids and a 90# dog packin' up to see the in-laws in Ohio - for me the rails are a necessity! :4:

I don't care how noisy or messy they are-
It's downright cruel to strap either kids or dogs to the roofrack!

I have aftermarket Yakima bars and those mofos are very noisy. I only use them on road trips when I need to carry cargo and keep the radio volume up.

I want to be perfectly clear here!!!! I would NEVER even think about strapping my poor dog to the roof rails! ;)

What about your "mother in law" ????????

My MDX came with roof rack and cross bars. I don't hear any wind noise. I added a Yakima ski rack (still hear no noise).

Haven't used it actually but maybe next ski season if I have a couple of people in the car. Remember the 2nd row doesn't fold in the middle so if you have 4-5 people in the car you may already require the roof rack (unless you want it stacked inside on people shoulders).
