Radio adjustment settings - Click HERE for Original Thread

I got my MDX last month and have the basic model without NAV. I have noticed several times that I lose my radio adjustment settings for base, treble, balance, fader etc. The stations that I have set are still there though. I have programed everything with my keys for Driver one. All the personal settings are still there and working well, except from time to time I lose my radio adjustment settings as mentioned above. Does anyone know of a fix for this?

Alot of posts seem to indicate its a problem with the keys not being programmed correctly for driver 1 and driver 2. Unlike my dad's 04 TL, all of the settings are driver specific. When I first got the 07 X, I told my wife she could all the #1 bands of the radio (XM-1, FM-1, etc) for her presets. One day I used her key and I was like what the #$%# who changed my stations. That is how we figured out its key specific. I would go through the manual step by step to activate each key settings to on and then make your adjustments. If that does not work, then a trip to the dealer it is.

I am only using the #1 key and driving the MDX. It is working correctly for my other settings. The stations are all there, it is just the sterio settings that change occationally.

Does the info screen say "Welcome Driver 1" or just "Welcome?" If it just says "Welcome," you still need to link up your key to the car.

Yes it does say "Welcome Driver 1"

I had the exact same problem. Occasionally, (maybe 1x per month) I would lose all the radio settings - treble, bass, fader, but not the radio stations.

I checked to see if it was the different key fobs, but that did not appear to be the issue.

I mentioned this to the dealer when I took my 2007 MDX in for servicing and they just changed out the radio, no questions asked. I thought that it was weird that they would just change the radio without being able to confirm the issue, so maybe Honda knows of the issue and they just replace the radio?

Hope this helps. I have not seen the issue since I've had it replaced, but it's only been 1 week.

Let me know if the replacement of the radio did the trick.....I still lose the presets (tone) too....my dealer wants to replace the radio, but hopefully it fixes it. Let me know...............T

From what I understand, tsc69 had his radio unit replaced as well?? Is that correct tsc69?

I am having the same issue on my BASE MDX as well. Driving me nuts. And yes, I ONLY use 1 key fob, the other one is at home.

I don't understand how using 1 key fob could cause this problem??

Is the unlinking / linking of the key fob related to the display "Welcome Driver 1" and "Welcome" ???? If you see "Welcome" - does that mean your stereo setting is re-setted? If so, that could be the issue. I usually don't pay attention to the display screen...

Please explain...

I have NO idea if it is the keyfob or not....eith er does my dealer--Lehigh Valley Acura. I think it just may be the radio. My dealer is looking into it, and they just suggested that they would replace the radio, but I want to make sure that a replaced radio does the fix.

It's been about 2 weeks since my radio replacement and so far, no issues. However, given that it did not occur that often, it's a little too early to declare victory.

I'll keep you posted.

Well, I have had the radio replaced for about 1.5 months, and I still have the problem.

Everything seemed to be fine for a while, but last weekend, I lost all my bass, treble, etc setting AND my FM radio presets (but not XM).

Losing the FM settings was new as previously I only lost the sound settings.

As an FYI, I lost the settings for both key fobs (Driver 1 and Driver 2).

The memory module is faulty, acura should replace and inspect power wires for any shorts or cuts.

I am new to this site (as you probably can tell) and have a base model. We use key1 and key2 and the radio stations and setting are lost every few weeks for some reason. It appears to be when one key has been used (locked and unlocked the car). Then the other key is used in the car (when it is unlocked). The car still displays welcome driver1 say if key2 was used second. Then when you turn on the radio you see the last station displayed and playing but when you select any station all stations are lost along with the settings. I know this sounds strange and our dealer is lost on this problem also. I just wrote this to explain what I see happening in case it helps anyone else.

Are there any more updates to this problem or has anyone had their memory replaced and know that it fixed the problem? Our dealer does not know of any problems and I would like to reccommend something to them.

Thanks bkp!

Hello MDX owners,

Has anyone found the answer to the radio problems? From the posts it does not seem to matter what model it is. At various times the radio stations and/or settings are reset which is very frustrating.

I was wanting to know if anyone has had this problem and has had it FIXED? Any info would be appreciated. I have read all the other posts to this problem.

Thanks,

Since neither my wife nor I listen to the radio, I can't comment on whether or not we're losing our radio station presets, however I have noticed exactly the phenomenon you described with respect to "mixing and matching" the key fobs. I've found that if my wife unlocks the X with her key and then I start it with mine, all my settings are lost and the car reverts to its "default" state (clock resets, color scheme changes, BT doesn't connect to my Treo, I get locked out of the "Home" section of the NAV, voice-feedback turns on, etc...). No amount of fussing with my key will relink it until I lock and then unlock the X with my key fob. At this point, the key is read properly (i.e. "Driver 1" appears in the MID), and all the settings are restored.

This has only happened twice, but it's still sort of annoying.

Regards,
Adam

Thanks for the info... my wife and I do interchange the keys at times. I will get in the x and drive after she has driven it for a few days, etc. And this appears to be when we have the problem - not all of the time but when we both have been driving the x interchangeably...

I do know that both our settings are lost when this happens (key1 and key2). But I can't remember if I have ever tried to lock and unlock the x to see if it corrects the problem. I do believe that we have lost the settings and have locked the x while at a store and then unlocked it and everything is still lost... but I will try to lock and unlock it just to make sure.

Thanks

We are experiencing the same problem with our 2007 mdx. Presets only are lost. Radio has already been replaced and same issue exists. Dealer is now saying that leaving our key in the ignition overnight in the garage is draining the battery and causing the erasing of presets. They claim mdx will go into a sleep mode when the key is removed and placed > 10 feet from the vehicle. If the key is still in the vehicle, some of the modules stay active and drain power. My wife also only drives the vehicle a short distance to work and they say the battery may not be getting enough of a charge. The dealer is also going to replace our battery at the end of the week. In conclusion, they say we have a faulty battery and the occasional low voltage condition is causing presets to go away. Note: a full power loss erases much more. Ive also contacted client services at acura and have their engineering department involved. Only time will tell whether the battery is the culprit.

Yes this happens in an 08 Base MDX too. I have lost the subwoofer, trebble settings. I wondered if I was doing something wrong but seems to be a bug in the system with the MDX even the 08s. I don't think we are all doing something wrong, I think the Acura needs to find a fix for this.
Tomba911
I have had this problem with losing the settings for some time now....6 months, and no help from Acura. I have discovered that if you leave the radio on (just turn the volume down all the way)before you turn the car off......no lost tone settings. There must be a bug when the radio is turned on & off.

Hello all, I have posted to a couple of threads in the past pertaining to pre-set stations and/or settings being reset. This has happened many times and there is no consistency to it. We have an 07 x.

BUT - I just took it in for a third visit on this problem and the dealer said they were just going to order a new radio since the memory, etc. for the radio is separate than the other settings. The short of it is that Acura told them to not order any more radios - they are on backorder and they are aware of the problem. They are going to issue a bullitin in Jan-08 for a fix. I don't know if this is a software fix and/or parts but we have had this problem for months now.

I think there was enough x owners having some sort of radio problems that got Acura's attention. So call your service dept.

Hope this helps...

I just came from the dealer and they mentioned that the key I had was not programmed.
But in the last service they had programmed both.
Turns out I still have the same issue with the equalizer settings (base treble etc)
It keeps reseting to default.
Not sure if this is related but the XM radio has some type if interference every 10 seconds.

Can someone provide a reference description when the dealer replaced something for this issue (ie replace the radio?

Thanks
tk_kat
I had my radio replaced and it did NOT solve the problem.

However, the dealer just had new software downloaded to the radio which is supposed to have a fix. I have not had the problem since, but it has only been about a week.

Just heard back from Acura client services and Dealer. Sounds like Acura has recognized the problem does exist and is hoping for a fix within the next 30-45 days. Not sure if its software or hardware related but they are going to contact me when the tsb is out.

When they recognized the issue, how they called/ refered it ? Radio settings issue or equalizer issue?
I ask because I'm taking my MDx today to the dealer for the XM and this issue.

I hope they can do something about it.

I don't want to take it a 4th time for the same reason.
Will post if they resolve the issue.

I took it to the dealer and they will look into this.
But when I told him that I researched in the web and saw many people with this issue, he claimed it was only on the cars with navigation.
I have a base model and its happening to me, AND I can see from your posts that some of you have the base too.

When a manufacturer does not want to recognize and issue...well is is another porblem.

How many people have this radio settings issue in this forum? and what model you have?

I'll be picking the MDX tomorrow and will see if they fixed it.
Tomba911
I have a base MDX and I have found a temp. fix for the radio....DO NOT TURN IT OFF. ..JUST TURN THE VOLUME DOWN. I am still waiting for Lehigh Valley Acura for an answer....they cannot figure it out.

The volume thing does work, I haven't lost my settings in two months....when I would turn the radio off....at least twice a week they were lost.

According to the dealer the issue with the radio settings on the MDX (without navigation or base model) is that the remotes are not linked.

When this happens the car does not recognizes the driver 1 or 2, but a guest.
On the display screen you will see a Welcome without the driver 1 or 2

Then the equalizer setting will be all "C" or default.

He demonstrated it by unlinking the remote then closing and opening the doors with it. When the radio was turned on the settings were gone.

The remote is unlinked/linked by pressing both buttons for a few seconds (the light will either blink or stay on for a while)
Now the thing to check is that either the remotes are being unlinked by mistake or by themselves.

When I re-linked the remote the settings came back.

Now I need to wait until this happens again and see if linking the remote resolves the issue.

Will report in a few days

Cheers:cool:

danilo,
dealer told us same thing. however, the problem occurs even when the display says "welcome driver 1". Our dealer told us to relink and see if settings would come back and they did not. Our dealer also told us to lock and unlock with the fob and see if settings would come back. They do not. We do not have the navi. Acura client services told us within the month there will be a fix. standby

In my experience you are right. When I lost the settings they never came back even when it said driver 1.
But when they demostrated the issue they came back ok.
So I need to wait untill it happens again and report to the dealer.
Its been bad since I have talen it to then 3 times already.
I also have the issue with the xm radio and they need to replace it but the part does not come untill friday.

They mentioned that there is going to be a sb but for the nav one, so up to now "my mdx does not have an issue" untill there is a sb that specifically says base model.

For radio issues I have taken it 4 times and counting. :(

Received phone call from acura client services. The tsb they told me would fix my car was for navi model only. They really have their act together -- not ! Ive never seen such incompetance. Radio still having same issue now for about 8 months. Been back four times. Need to call again to schedule another appointment. My opinion is the dealer has no clue.

JUST LEAVE THE RADIO ON. TURN THE VOLUME TO ZERO BEFORE TURNING THE MDX OFF. MINE HAVE NOT RESET IS 3 MONTHS.

THERE IS A ISSUE WITH THE POWER ON & OFF--IT MAKES THE SETTINGS GO TO 0.

WOW.. that is good to know. At least its a workaround.

I noticed, I do turn off my sound system every time I turn off the engine.

I hope Acura knows about this problem and start doing recalls to get this fix..

I have the same problem along with the radio illumination not coming on sometimes. Originally I thought that I had caused the problems by direct wiring my Valentine and Garmin into the fuse box. Then I read that other people are having the same issues. I brought my X in for it's 15k service yesterday and told the service dept about the problem. They said that they could not recreate and that there is no TSB as of yet, so they wouldn't do anything.
danilo
They replaced my xm module resolving the xm issue.

But for the settings on the equalizer/sub woofer settings they just did a "reset" and reported that all was working as "factory".

Of course problem still there.
We need to wait for the SB / fix to resolve this
tk_kat
I have the 07 Base MDX, and have had it for the radio issue a number of times.

They tried to tell me it was the linking / unlinking of fobs, and that somehow I was doing something wrong. But of course, the seats go into the correct position for both Driver 1 and Driver 2, and it displays the welcome message.

They did replace the radio in the summer, but this was no help. In December, they uploaded a fix, which they said was supposed to resolve the issue. I think they told me that it was suppose to be for a Navi / radio issue, but that it would fix the Base model losing the settings as well.

It has been a month, and I just had the problem again, so this patch did not work.

I'm going to call them again, so they let me know when a new patch comes out.
Fabvsix
recalls are ONLY done when a human beings life is in jeopardy! This is NOT a life threatening issue to warrant a RECALL !!!!
