MDX vs. Caddy SRX - Click HERE for Original Thread

I currently own an 05 Caddy SRX that I bought off lease from a family member at a good price. One two year and another on the way. ( I posted a few days ago with a few questions).

Currious if anyone can comment on the overall size differences of the front seat area, back seat area and the area behind the SECOND row of both seats.

The SRX seems very difficult to climb in the back to put the two year old in the car seat and seems tight in every which was.

It drives very sport and is fast, but curious if anyone has crossed-shopped the two or had experience with both.

Thanks.

I test drove an SRX at a big test drive event. Was not impressed at all. V6 engine was loud and rough sounding, there was an absurdly loud rattle from the dash somewhere, and the handling while better than the typical SUV was no Cayenne or even X5.

Maybe with the Northstar and all the options, it's a better vehicle. But my impression of it vs. a new MDX definitely has the MDX taking the win.

If you think it is difficult to work with a car seat in the back of the SRX then try to find a place to stand to put something on the roof rack of the MDX. I about broke my neck today!!!

MDX roofrack? Get some sport running boards and you'll have no problem reaching anywhere on the roof.

I drove the SRX before the MDX.

- Full glass roof was cool, but, with no protection between me and that thing except a flimsy piece of cloth, I think there would be lots of glass flying in the event of an accident.

- Fuel mileage not impressive

- My wife felt that the dash "jutted out" into her lap.

- SRX is more of a tall station wagon than an SUV in my opinion

- No clearance between roof rack and roof of car - does not look like it was meant to be used.

Car and Driver ranked the SRX second to the MDX by a fairly wide margin recently, if that helps. The SRX won in power and 0-60 time if that's important to you. Among 50K SUVs, the MDX seems to be leading in most categories, including interior room.

But when it comes to 3rd row space in midsize SUVs, fuhgeddaboutit. Only the MB GL450 can boast of useful (i.e. adult size) 3rd row space.

No running boards for me. My son cannot transfer into the MDX from his wheelchair if it has running boards. Him being able to get into the MDX is the reason I bought it.

You might need one of those tire steps.

You might want to look at the Sport running boards. They do not extend out far from the body side of the car and might not be an obstacle for your son, and moight make it easier to maneuver the chair clsoe to the car without hitting it as he could then put the chair right up against the running boards.

Remember that C&D rated the SRX highly as it had the Northstar V8 and was by far the fastest in the group. Without the V8 the SRX would not have ranked above midpack.
