How do you think Britain fared as a result of the recent hostage crisis?
G. COLTON
The British Navy did fine. They really had no part in the negotiations.

As far as I can tell the British diplomatic corps also performed well. The Iranians played it smart. It was just about time to see if the Brits would escalate and Iran decided to blink instead of finding out what would happen.

I think both the navy and the country did poorly.
Firstly, provided that their gps was correct, they were in international waters thus had no obligation to let the Iranians board their ship. They let Iranians in couple of what amounts to be speed boats board a ship with vastly superior firepower. then, they let them take hostages. i would expect this from the French but not the Brits. Brits had all the right to fire upon the Iranians but for mysterious reasons chose not to.
Following this disgrace, the sailors themselves displayed more disgrace by admitting to things they were not guilty of. These are soldiers and should act in a more professional way. They were also way too chummy with their captors. I guess they need some lessons from likes of those kept in Hanoi Hilton.
The government itself showed weakness and clearly sent out a message that says if you take our soldiers hostage, or capture them, there will be no consequences.
Europe has learned no lessons from their pre WWII failiures (that led to over 50 million deaths) or cold war. I am glad Reagan and thatcher were nothing like Blair otherwise we'd still be facing the Soviets.

Bush will probably attack Iran under some pretense of 'hot pursuit'

First of all they were not on a ship. They were away from their own ship inspecting other ships in the area.

I think you need to become more familar with what happened before commenting.
