Hello all,
I had something interesting happen that may be helpful to others. last week I had the trouble code P1457 evaporator problem pop up. My '01 MDX other than a replaced transmission under warranty has been trouble free. I called the dealer and they were no help except to have me bring the car in at $90/hr. It dawned on me that I had just added a fuel injector cleaner to the gas tank 2 days earlier. I had put two bottles of Techron in a full tank. I don't know why it would throw a code but 3 days after refilling the tank with fresh gas the light went off. If someone has a reason why I would get p1457, I'd like to hear it. Otherwise I may suggest that when this code comes up, add Techron to the gas and run it through and refill with fresh fuel and see if it cleans/corrects the problem. I wonder if it is either bad gas triggering the code or dirty fuel system.
Whatever the reason mine seems to be fine once more.
Regards,

My trouble shooting code guide does not list a 'P1457' code. However it does list a 'P0457' code as a loose gas cap. The listed fix is to check cap gasket / o ring and filler neck mating surfaces for condition. If gasket / o ring and mating surfaces are OK, reinstall gas cap, making sure to tighten at least 3 clicks.
Code can either be reset by HDS or equivalent, or by driving the car. If the latter, the code may take a few days to reset on its own. |

What has been identified on the MDX to be the leading cause of the P1456/p1457 code has been the filler neck.
It passes the EVAP system test built in to our scan tools, but there can be a gross leak at the filler neck at the connection where the metal opening is mated to the plastic pipe. Easiest way to diagnose has been to take the neck off the vehicle, tighten the cap, fill up the neck with water and see if if leaks from that area. |
