| I brought my '07 MDX to the dealer yesterday for its first oil change. I didn't think much about it until today when I noticed that they put a little sticker in the upper right corner of my windshield that said my next maintenance was in 3000 miles. I looked at the paperwork closely and noticed that they replaced my synthetic oil with 5W20 -- and the "description" says "10W/305W/20 Oil". Doesn't sound synthetic to me. Now why would they do this?? Should I stick with the regular oil or should I bring the car back to the dealer and have them replace it with synthetic?? Any advice would be appreciated. |

| Why do you have synthetic oil in your 07 in the first place? Did you change it yourself? That sounds like a no-no if you haven't broken it in yet. |

| OK .. I thought that the break-in oil was synthetic. The salesperson made a big deal about using the synthetic oil -- but then I took it with a grain of salt because I figure that they'll say anything to keep you using the dealer service. Anyhow, since it was the FIRST oil change, I took it to the dealer. And lo and behold .. regular oil. |

I changed the oil in my MDX at 1,800 miles to go synthetic.
If you did not tell them to use synthetic then I do not see that you have any gripe with the service department. You can change again to go to synthetic or wait until your next scheduled oil change.

Ginadoll,
Acura says you "can" use synthetic, but you don't have to. The 07's MID maintenance reminder doesn't give you any extra credit for syn, either. You will still count down to 10%, and still have to change at the same intervals as regular oil.
The salesman has no more knowledge of oil (or your MDX), than the newspaper boy does. The break-in oil is regular oil, with some molybdenum additive to smooth out the initial rough spots. |

| Thank you all very much for your replies! This is really good to know. I'll stick with the regular oil for now and consider the synthetic on my next oil change after I do a little more research about it. It's also good to know that the oil monitor on the vehicle doesn't give the extra consideration to synthetic when it's doing the countdown. |

I've used Mobil 1 exclusively for over 15 years now. I change my oil for the first time at 3K miles and then at 6K intervals.
I ignore the MID. Call me old school.

hi
guess there are a couple of different issues, if the sales person told you they are giving you synthetic oil then you can have him make good on that i dunno
one thing is that as far as break in oil re: new car it depends on the oil some synthetics today are just as good for break in however i would use regular oil if that is what orignially came w/the car for break in depending on the manuf i'd guess break in to be at least 5k miles some up to 10k
after break in i always use a full synthetic oil it's MUCH better i don't use it to get more life between changes i still change it as needed i use it becasuse it really keeps my engine clean and w/less ware
same goes for syn transmission oil and in some cars i use syn differential oils it's amazing to see a old engine w/and w/o syn driven in identical lab conditions syn is cool stuff
good luck |

| Your salesman may have been confused (hard to believe) with the RDX which requires synthetic from the get go, MDX's as stated come stock with dino. |

| Brax is correct about the RDX requiring Mobil One at that Syn!!!! I used Mobil 1 in all my new honda's/acura's after break in oil run.....I also ONLY use Mobil 1 oil filters M-104.....Does the new X use M-104 filter? :1: :1: My mileage is only at 3200 miles YTD... |
