hey guys
As you may know,my 06 MDX was lemoned due to electrical issues and i got an 07 MDX. I have reached about 1500 miles and there is a bunch of fuel burnup dirt in the exaust tips. I can clean it, turn the car on and when i come back, some of it will reapear. Is this a common thing that will dissapear with time and more milage or should i take it to the dealer ship. BTW, I used 93 octane gas ONLY, the gunk is not from oil as my oil is full (check it again today) and I am only getting 16.4 MPG when i drive very lightly, i get 24 in the city with my TL when i drive the same way. |

| My chrome exhaust tips get dirty, too. I don't necessarily attribute that to "fuel not burning completely". I'm getting 21 mpg (calculated) at 1,800 miles, so the engine seems to be running well. |

What you are seeing is normal. There are always combustion products that will cause the pipe to become dirty.

Are you seriously expecting comparable mileage just because they're both Acuras with a V6?
Your TL is more aerodynamic, weighs a great deal less, has less resistance in the drivetrain, and has an engine with half a liter less of displacement. |

Strange..... I was thinking the same thing today as why the exhaust tips had a build up of carbon. I know it's normal to have some carbon build on the exhaust tip, what I'm seeing is a heavy layer of build up.
There must be a better explanation than 'it's normal' or 'aerodynamic differences between the TL and the MDX'. Now if it's associated with burnt oil, I would suspect that this is a problem. Any additional thoughts out there? Thanks |

| Find any parked car with or without chrome tips, and run your finger inside the pipe. There will be carbon. |

| ^ i know that, but even after a one mile trip, it heavy. I cleaned it before going shopping, when i came back home, they were dirty and it was a leavy layer of gunk. Roundtrip, 5 miles. |

| If it only took 5 miles, something is wrong. Maybe the rings didn't seat and you're burning oil. Take it back to the dealer. |

checked the oil and it is at the full level. Also there is no black smoke when starting the car. I will take it to acura when i get a chance. |

What you are seeing is probably just moisture that is normal until the car heats up enough to fully sweat out the exhaust system.
The tips will be wet for the first few miles, and as long as what you are seeing dry's out you are fine. If you wait until morning when the car is cold and the tips are oily you have a problem. If in the morning all you have is a black dusty finger but it is dry you are fine. |

def not moisture. The residue on the tips is very greasy/oily and will take alot of scrubbing to get off your fingers. I checked oil and it was fine. I am now getting about 17 MPG and I baby the car. |
