Sunroof Track 'Rattles' Me...Help Tim! - Click HERE for Original Thread

Just proudly bought a used 2004 X....not under any factory warranty. Surprisingly, there are a host of rattles on this car. Specifically, the Sunroof track, which rattles over every sizable bump in the road. My bad for not catching this before I bought it, but REALLY need to fix this issue. My 2002 Grand Cherokee rattled less than this MDX, which really surprises me. The only solution a reputable local dealer has for me is to replace the entire unit. Drive motors and all.

Any options out there for replacing this unit that won't cost me $2000.00....which is what they are quoting? Also, can I simply purchase a used car warranty from the dealer that will cover this issue?

Does it rattle when opened or just when closed? Or both? Our TL's sunroof rattled when closed. Some silicon lubricant applied to the rubber seal seems to have fixed it. This was applied about 3 years ago IIRC. There is a TSB for this for the TL but I am not sure about the MDX.

Like you, only when it's closed. Please elaborate on just exactly what you used and did...maybe I'll get lucky.

I took it to the dealer since it was a TSB but I believe all they did was apply some silicon lubricant to the gasket that is attached to the glass itself. Here's some info from a TL forum:

There's got to be an easy fix for this.

The best thing to cure dried out seasls is to put some clear RTV silicone on your fingers and knead it into the seal like bread dough. Then, wipe off the excess, and that will spring them back to life :)
