| First-gen Acura MDX reliability - how does it compare?

Because existing sources of auto reliability information left much to be desired, in late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research at TrueDelta.com. TrueDelta reports absolute stats like "trips to the shop" that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, so any significant changes in a model's reliability become apparent quickly.
Current number of Acura MDX owners signed up to participate:
2001: 48
2002: 27
2003: 40
2004: 42
2005: 29
2006: 27
A very good start, but additional participants remain needed for all years.
Participants report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.
To encourage participation, panel members will receive full access to the results free of charge.
Details: Vehicle reliability research
Latest results for the MDX, in successful repair trips per 100 vehicles per year:
2001: 59, much better than average
2002: insufficient data
2003: 96, only about average, but based on a small sample size; actual repair rate probably lower
2004: 18, much better than average, but again a small sample size; actual repair rate probably higher
2005: insufficient data
2006: 57, a bit better than average, very small sample size
A big thanks to this forum and its members for helping to make these results possible. Clearly, we need more participants to provide solid information for all model years, so hopefully more owners will join and participate.

Data collection has started for the 2001 and 2004. More participants would be very helpful. First results for these years should be in November.
In August I'll have a solid result for the 2007, for which 78 owners are now signed up.

Thanks, I appreciate it.
2003 and 2006 aren't far from the minimum now. The next results will be in November. These might include the 2001 and 2004--depends on how many owners sign up and respond to the very brief survey--unless there has been a repair it's just an approximate odometer reading. |

Ended up reporting no results for the Gen 1 MDX (had strong participation for the 2007). More participants are very much needed.

Updated counts in the OP. 2003, 2005, and 2006 are all within 4-5 owners of getting started. Very close.
I recently added a Common Auto Repairs Database (CARDb) to the site. People posting common repairs can include a link to a forum thread discussing the problem. I hope this will make it easier for people to find this information, while helping to grow the forums that have been lending a hand with the research.

Thanks, I appreciate it.
2002, 2005, and 2006 are now all just two or three owners short of the minimum. Very close. With a few more participants, all three could be included in the main survey this month.

I've added all three of those model years to the survey. In all cases the sample sizes are around the minimum, so additional participants would help a great deal.
Results for other years were recently posted to the "general" forum here.

Results recently posted for the 2001 and 2004. In both cases, the repair rate continues to be better than average. Also in both cases, the results are asterisked for a marginal sample size.
I'd like to get rid of those asterisks, and include additional model years. Your help is needed.

Well, it's looking like the 2001, 2003, and 2004 will be in the August results, with the 2006 a possibility.
If you've signed up to participate but haven't yet responded to the survey (via a link in the email you received), please do. And if you haven't signed up yet, I hope you'll consider doing so. I'd really like to have these results in August.

In the end, the 2003 and the 2006 fell a few responses short of the bare minimum.
Help us provide solid results for all model years in future updates:

We've begun preparing the November results. The 2001 is currently just two responses short of the minimum for a full result, while the 2006 is a response or two short of the minimum for a partial result. The 2003 and 2004 should make it in, but with asterisks for marginal sample sizes.
With more participants, we could provide more precise results and cover all model years.

Got those responses. Thanks, guys.
Next week's results will include all years except the 2002 and 2005. So while more participants would be helpful for all years, we especially need more of those.
