| On my test drive of the 07 MDX, I noticed that the car was very sensitive to the up/downhills and would shift very frequently... not only does it shift frequently, but it does not shift quickly or very smoothly... does anyone else feel this way? I dont currently drive an SUV, so i am not sure if this is typical of a heavy car. I would describe it as over active shifting, pronounced with a lack of power... not that the car is slow, but when i step on the gas, it has to downshift all the time & then upshift for a few secs, then upshift again. Other cars I have drven will just go when i step on the gas, no need for the quick downshift & upshift again... maybe its just cuz of the weight of the car? |

Most cars these days have that logic, however it seemed like the MDX shifted an aweful lot... no one else notice? Or maybe its just typical of an SUV? |

At the risk of offending you, let me be very clear:
During your purchase decision process, you have criticized the maintenance intervals, (and asked about maintenance interval after 100,000 miles), criticized the lack of keyless ignition, asked about the minutia of the trip computer, criticized the windnoise from the moonroof, and you were critical about frequent shifiting. In my opinion, any car you buy will be disappointing to you. A nice Ford Explorer is at least cheaper than any of your current choices.
If you think the MDX has too much wind noise, or shifts too often then don't ask us if we think it shifts too often! We've already made our decisions. And frankly, while we're all very willing to be helpful, we're not here to defend or sell the MDX.
WHy don't you review the Car and Driver comparison, and the Kelly Blue Book trade in value conparisons?

No Offense taken, but yes, I am very critical & particular about a lot of things.. buying a car is one of them. Just want to see what options the cars have or dont have & what you & the rest of the actual owners think of your purchase prior to me making my decision.
Perhaps it seems like I am beating up on the MDX because I only mention the bad things or things that I dont like... there are tons of things I do like about the MDX, that is why it is one of my considerations.. not like the Audi Q7, which I ruled out once I got familiar w/ it. But as always thanks for your input! :)
This is a very difficult decision for me because the cars are so close... My current cars were easy choices for me at the time. |

| To help you out here I will say you are correct on the multiple shift points. It took me a bit to get used to as well, but I was coming from a German sedan. The MDX is nothing like a sedan, it is quite a bit heavier, but I will say that the X handles every bit as good, and is just as fin to drive and I get the benefits of the SUV. I also do not have the sport model and still love the handling. |

| i was driving in the MDX the other day and decided to use the manual shift mode. I noticed that when i shifted up that there is a noticable delay. this weekend i have a TL as a loaner because my MDX is in the dealer for some electrical problems and the TL shifts sooooo much faster in manual made then the MDX. wonder if there is a hack to make it faster |

No hack. Transmissions are hypersensitive pieces of equipment. The best thing you could wish for is an ECU re flash, and that is not likely to make a difference.
With exception to setups like DSG, SMG, etc, all these electronic shift things are just funny to me. They help for holding a gear to play around merging, but not much else.

| im sure a hack will come soon. on the infinity fx forum their transmissions suffer from lag from shifting manual as well but they have developed a hack to make shifting much more faster. |

Good luck with that... I'm not modifying the software of an automatic transmission without dealer approval.

There was this same issue (delay/hesitation in shifting) with my 2005 Subaru outback. Subaru did a 'silent' recall and adjusted some software program and the problem was resolved.
Maybe Acura will do the same, hopefully. |
