Forum,
Just purchased my first MDX this weekend. An 07 metallic blue base package.
The dealer presented the extended warranty option but was not Acura Care, and which I unsuspectingly bought. On surfing a bit is when I came across Acura Care. Is Acura Care the 'official' way to go for extended warranties? |

AcuraCare is backed by Acura and seemless in use. With other warranty companies you are at the mercy of approval from the warranty company (assuming they are still in business when you need to use it). Check to see if you can cancel the warranty you purchased - Acuracare lets you cancel. |

| I believe I am able to cancel within 30 days specially when there are no claims pending. There is an option to buy Acura Care warranties from www. currryacuracare.com (and they are cheaper, comparitively). Moreover they give discounts as well. Is this a recommended option for the wararnty purchase? thx. |

Comparing plans, www.hondacuraworld.com appears to be cheaper:
For example:
7yr/100K/$0 ded = $1855 @ curryacuracare.com
7yr/100K/$0 ded = $1660 @ hondacuraworld.com |

| Just wondering why an Acura dealer would offer anything other than Acura Care on a new vehicle. Sounds suspicious. Got my extended warranty from Tim at hondacuraworld. |

Cause they probably make more money on it than on the AcuraCare. :readit::blingblin |

Gotcha. They also receive incentives when they meet their numbers from Acura, though. |

Not knowing anything better, I had negotiated from $2600 to $1500 for a 7 year/ 75K warranty. But the comparable one in Acura Care is much lower (~ $1000).
On calling them back, they said their customers had complained about Acura Care and what it covers, and the dealership had made a choice not to push for Acura Care. And were willing to switch to Acura Care.
Sounds suspicious - yes, but I would be interested in anyone who has had any issues with the Acura Care coverage/ service etc. |

I don't believe that anybody has posted anything bad about AcuraCare that I can remember. Does the other warranty have roadside asstance and rental reimbursement? There have been a few posts praising the AcuraCare roadside assistance. |

Then the profits on the other warranty must more than compensate for the incentives otherwise they wouldn't sell it. Notice how the dealer did not make it clear that he wasn't buying an Acura warranty or that an Acura warranty was even an option. |

| While I have the chance, doesa $500 plan that covers windshields (3 replacements), tire&wheel damage (replacement tire), and dent and ding repair (3 serice calls) over 5 years make sense? |

I'd pass, but I have $0 deductible windshield replacement on my auto insurance, have not had any significant wheel/tire damage, and am careful where I park to avoid dings. |

It is usually a good idea to decline any of this extra "insurance". The windshield should be covered under your car insurance. For the other stuff, I would bank the $500 and save it for a rainy day. Again, would the company providing the coverage be around in 5 years? Have you needed this coverage in the past? If not, why would you think you need it now? Good luck. |
