Hi,
I just recently immigrated from the HondaPilot.org board. I am interested in buying a 2007 MDX and trading in my 2003 Pilot. There was one we really liked but when we looked at the production date it was December 2006. Dealer said they received it during the last week of December. The vehicle only has 6 miles. Should I be concerned that there may be something wrong with the car? The vehicle drives fine and I don't see anything wrong with the vehicle. Just wondering why this particular model wasn't sold for almost 5 months while other MDXs in their inventory were built in March 2007. Should I look for another one that was recently built?
Thanks! |

A lot would depend on color, options, etc. Even the holdback would probably come into play after it has been sitting too long. A recently built one would have all of the "patches" applied to it but the dealer should be able to apply any "patches" before taking delivery. Good luck! |

| I would be interested to see the 'purchase' history on the car. Was it delivered to the dealer as a part of the dealer's normal allotment? Or was it ordered by a customer, who later backed out of the deal? At this point the dealer may be in the mood to seriously negotiate. You just might be in a great position. |

On the window sticker it shows the same dealer. It shows point of entry as Buffalo and destination as Los Gatos Acura, which was where I saw the vehicle. So it doesn't appear to be a vehicle acquired from another dealer. If it was ordered by a customer what would it say on the window sticker? |

The window sticker will not show anything about who the car might have been ordered from just the options and dealer it was shipped to.
The issue here seems to be why this truck was sitting on the lot for 5 months. My car had a build date of November and it got it December 2nd. |

The last 5 or 6 digits of the vin is the sequence number of that car off of the assembly line. A lower numbered car is older than a higher number. But the numbers are relative based on production numbers. |

| why bother with the vin number, just open the drivers door and look at the sticker on the door jam! It states when the car was manufactured and where..... |

Can someone who works in a car dealer shed some light as to why a car may sit on a lot for so long?
Thanks! |

Horrible "fit and finish" issue!
May have been damaged during shipping!
May have been damaged by the dealership!
Most undersirable color combo! |

The car was probably sitting in the back lot somewhere. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. Could be that it was a color combo that they had a lot of. If they park the car in the back and they keep getting new cars with the same color combo and park it in front, why move all the cars to get to the one in the back if you have newer ones there. Plus six miles on it is a good sign. When I bought mine, it had 3 miles on it. It still had the plastic all over it and on the seats. After we test drove it and got gas, we had 6 miles on it when I left the lot to drive it home. Also keep in mind that sales have been slow for all dealerships do to tax season. People are more cautious making big purchases around this time. If the car has been on the lot for a long time, you can probably get one sweet deal. I'm not sure if you are familiar with the term "dealer holdback". It is included in the invoice price that the dealer pays to the manufacturer that normally covers 90days of maintenance & insurance for the car sitting on the lot. Some dealers can afford to sell cars at invoice price if they sell the car right away. This allows them to keep the dealerholdback as profit. In this case, if the car has been there too long, every day the car sits on the lot costs the dealership money. I'd offer the dealership invoice price or $100 over invoice for the car and see if they will take it. If they don't, they are stupid. If you are not comfortable with that then I suggest going to a different dealer and purchase a newer one. I paid $500 over invoice for my sport/ent and my sister in law paid invoice price for her tech/ent. I think other people on this board are getting good deals right now too because of the slow sales do to tax season. Well good luck and happy driving!

Thanks to all for the replies.!!
Well the MDX that's sitting for a long time is a silver with black (ebony) interior. Seems like it's probably not a popular color combo. |

What does it really matter why it was possible sitting at the dealer for 5 months.
What matters is do you like that particular vehicle, with the options that it has and the color combination.
If you can find nothing wrong with that MDX then buy it. The warranty does not care how long it was at the dealer. It is still the same warranty.

| I have the silver and black! This is a very popular combo. Maybe the dealer had a lot of them or the dealer was charging way over sticker for it and so it just sat there. I can go on and on about what if this and what if that but if you like the car, buy it. |

| Have you asked the dealer for an explanation? |

| Who in their right mind would believe a car salesmans or their boss?????? They will tell you what ever you want to hear......It is strange that an 07 MDX Silver with Black enterior would sit for 5 months with 5 miles on it......Check the fit and finish BIG TIME ! |

| If you buy it, make sure they charge or replace the battery. Also check the tires. Otherwise, it should be good to go, but I would inspect it carefully and make a low-ball offer to take it off their hands. |

I don't believe I said anything about believing a car salesman or their boss......nothing wrong in asking for an explanation and then making up your own mind. Personally, I wouldn't touch this MDX with a 10 foot pole, hard to believe in that color combo that it has been sitting on the lot for so long...... |

| I'd examine the vehicle carefully and take an extended test drive. If everything looked OK then I'd try to make a great deal. It is costing the dealer money to have it on the lot this long. It only has 6 miles so it is not a test driver. Since it is a popular color combo, the dealer may have had a number of them, and this may just be the last one of those. My truck sat on the dealers lot for 4 months because of that reason and there is nothing wrong with at all. |

Well, I test drove the vehicle on the freeway and streets and nothing seems to be wrong with the car. I checked out every nook and cranny and again nothing wrong. Since it was the only silver/black on the lot I went ahead and purchased it. So now I am the proud owner of a 2007 Acura MDX Sport in Silver/ebony. :2:
I also received a great deal on the car-$200 below invoice!!
Now I have to figure out what acessories I need and how to protect the leather.
Thanks again to everyone for the great tips and advises.:4: |

I just bought a Silver and sat in a black interior and it was just a little too much black with the black koa trim. I thought the Silver Black would be a very cool combo, but personally didn't like it because of the Koa trim being black. If they had a rosewood trim, I would have loved it.
That might have been the reason it sat a while, but it's all personal taste. Go for it. |

| I knew you would get an awesome deal! If they didn't sell it to you, they would've been stupid to continue to keep it on the lot and pay for maintenance. Congrats, enjoy, and happy driving! |
