I have a one month old 2007 MDX basic model and I am experiencing memory issues. My dealer just replace the radio and it is STILL happening.
The issue is, the settings for base, tone, balance etc., that I set my personal setting for, will zero back to the flat center settings by themselves within a day or two! It will do this for BOTH memory positions 1 & 2. So even though I use key #1 and it zeros out, when I unlock with key #2 to see if the settings that I set are there, they are also at the zero or flat positions.
FYI...The keys are both linked and all other seat/mirror/radios stations are all still correct the way that I set them.
I wonder if the speed volume setting that I set to High is affecting the settings? I am pulling my hair out!
This is my first Acura and I am very frustrated. Does anyone have any suggestions?? |

| Sounds like you are setting the memory with key fob #1 and then using the other key and vice versa. Each key has it's own setting. Make sure you continue to use the same key fob for your own setting. My wife uses key fob#1 and all my settings are on key fob #2. When I put key #2 in the ignition, all my settings are there. If I put in key #1, my wifes settings show up. |

I only use Key Fob 1. I am the only driver.
As a test we put different radio settings in both keys to see if they both go back to the flat default settings when the memory is lost which they do, even though we programed different settings into each key. They work for a while and when the memory drops out they BOTH zero out to C. We though this would single out the radio as the problem vs the keys.
You would think that memory 1 would only effect memory 1 and not 2. (i.e., when I program , key/memory 1 for a bass setting of 3 and key/memory 2 for a base setting of 4, they both work right when switching back and fourth, however when I lose the setting in key/memory 1 and the default drops back to a base setting of C, I ALSO lose the #2 memory setting and it drops back to C.) We replaced the whole radio and it is STILL happening.
Does anyone have any insight to why this is happening?? |

Yes- I think your fob is getting 'unlinked' and you don't know it. I had this same issue (although I wouldn't say I was pulling my hair out) and realized that the fob was unlinking in my pocket. It only takes 3 or 4 seconds of pressure on both buttons to unlink it.
Try this (outside of the vehicle with the door closed) the next time it unlinks: look at the tiny LED between the two buttons. Press both buttons. If the LED blinks Once, then the Fob "was unlinked" and is "now linked". If the LED blinks twice, then the LED was linked, and is now unlinked.
I bet your LED will blink once. This means that it got unlinked in your pocket, and you just re-linked it.
The official fix for this, at least in my case, is to lose weight so my jeans aren't so tight. |

Is that an official TSB? So sad that car manufacturers have to incorporate such subliminal weight loss measures. |

It does say welcome driver 1 when I turn on the iginiton.
I don't think it is unlinking, and even if it was, it shouldn't effect key number 2's settings should it?? When it zeros out, both memorys for 1/2 are effected in the stereo. |

| To clarify on my last reply, Both stereo setting memorys for 1/2 return to center, however the radio station memorys are NOT effected at all. |

Does anyone know the connection between the car speed and the stereo volume? I have it set for High and I am wondering if this is causing my memory problem.
The owners manual says it is set to default to Medium from the factory. I wonder where that is set at in the vehicle, and how the stereo gets the info to it to raise the volume as you speed up? |

| I have experienced a similar situation and find it odd that when I drive the MDX the setting for bass, treble go back to the factory setting. Post a fix for this issue, since I drive a TL, I only experience this situation with my wifes MDX. |

The speed data comes from the computers. When you set it to max or high, the volume is reduced the most when you come to a stop. It shouldn't be causing a memory problem. |

I noticed that when I unlink both key fobs, the settings return to a default in the radio, for both stations and stereo sound settings.
Should I be programing my settings from this level, and then save them in the memory 1/2 spots on the drivers door, and then link up the 1/2 keys? |

You're getting confused. The "1" and "2" on the door is only for the drivers position settings. It is controlled by, but does not control, the keyless memory settings.
For the avoidance of doubt, link both fobs: Press and hold both buttons until each fob blinks once. (do this outside the vehicle with the door closed.) Check that the MID says welcome Driver 1 or Driver 2. Then put Fob 1 in the ignition, and program all your radio settings. Drive the vehicle. Shut off. Try the radio settings again.
If this doesn't work, it's back to the dealer time. |

I have tried all the above. You can actually unlink the Fobs and do separate stereo settings at the door 1/2 along with the driver settings.
Is there some type of memory flash, chip or board that holds the settings that could be the cause? I can go for miles or hours before they zero out (and it is ONLY the music setting, i.e., base, tone... the radio stations are all still there that I set). This has happened with BOTH the two radios I have had. It is very random. Any thoughts?? |

UPDATE:
You can actually unlink the Fobs and do separate stereo settings at the door 1/2 along with the driver settings. After doing this and then relinking the Fobs and plugging in the SAME settings, I have so far not lost any of the stereo settings like I did before.
Do this make any sense to anyone?? |

Well it went several days before the settings zeroed out again and the Fob was linked at the time.
to explain... last week I unlinked the Fob, and set the stations and stereo settings up. I then linked the Fob and set the SAME stations/settings up. (I did this figuring if the FOB came unlinked for some reason, then the default would have the same settings.)
So when they zeroed out again yesterday, the radio stations are all still there however, once again the stereo settings all go to C (center). So for Fob1, they are at center and when I unlinked it, the default is also at center.
Please help, what is going on???????????? |

tsc69 - you are RIGHT! The lost of sound settings is a big PROBLEM (not talking about the radio settings). This has nothing to do with the Remote link or unlink crap.. although that is a good theory.
I also noticed the same problem in my 07 MDX and posted my problem on this website a few months ago and got the similar replie. I gave up on the problem.
Once in awhile, I do noticed my sound settings getting reseted. At first, I thought it was the factory remote starter the dealership installed.. Now, I'm hearing other 07 X owners are having the same issue..
I really think this is a BIG ISSUE and I also want to know if any other 07 X owners are having the same issue...
Do you have Nav in your X? I don't have a Nav, maybe it only happens to all 07 X owners without navs? ..
I want to ask my dealership but I don't know where to start. They might say the say thing..etc I need more info!! |

did you try to explain this to your dealership?
I think problem might be a trigger issue. Maybe something to do with the key, timing, and stereo system out of sync.. sorry, I'm no expert.
I want to know why this is happening.. and why it happens at RANDOM? |

| I have a base 07 MDX that I've had for just three weeks and have had the same exact problem. The settings will hold for a few days and then they reset. Crazy! Anyone been able to fix with the dealer? |

Looks like we have a base model issue here. I have a Sport/Ent and have never had this issue.
And to clarify, the buttons on the door only link to the seat/mirror/steering wheel memory settings. Not the MID/Stereo/Climate/Nav settings. Therefore, if you've last used FOB #1 to unlock the doors and later press the #2 button on the door without ever pressing the unlock button on FOB #2, the seat/mirror/steering wheel settings will set to the #2 position while the MID/Stereo/Climate/Nav settings stay at #1. It will also state, "Welcome Driver 1" |

This has been going on for several months now. It happens at least once a week! I have the base model with no Nav. I have my key FOB 1 unlinked. (I don't use FOB 2.) I have been trying to figure this out by trying several things. The dealer installed a new radio in April. (I purchased the Truck in March...) I have had the SAME issue even with the new radio! The dealer wants me to leave the truck with them for two weeks to look at it.
There is one thing that has seem to establish a pattern. I have the headlights set to auto. I have noticed on at least 3-4 occasions that at dusk when the headlights come on and the radio dash lights don't come on immediately, (like they should) and several seconds pass, all the settings go back to center (C)!
This only happens when all the interior dash lights don't come on together. I am wondering if there is some tie-in between the light circuit and the radio, or some ground issue??? |

That is a good theory. Interesting..
It seems like this is happening only to the base model. If that is correct, the stereo unit might be at fault. However, you mentioned that you replaced it with a new unit. Uhmm.. so it could be one of 2 things:
1 - every single stereo unit on the base model has this reset memory problem.
2 - like you said above, it could be a bad wiring job or ground issue. If this is true I think it will also affect the radio settings as well. Correct?
This leads me to the next question, how come this only affect the stereo settings and not the radio preset memory??
I am going to take my X in next month and explain this to the service manager. I will also print out everything I find about the problem and make them read it.. I know this is going to be an aggressive move, and I don't care. I just want to get it resolved!!
This will be interesting to see if the 08' MDX base have the same problem. |

I may have discovered the issue. If you enter your car, unlocking with the fob, put it in the ignition, drive (having it say "driver 1", stopping, put it in park, turn the engine off, open the door, IF YOU LOCK THE DOOR USING THE LATCH ON THE DOOR--NOT THE FOB AFTER THE DOOR IS CLOSED, THE PRESETS RESORT BACK TO "C".
Well..........its done it in mine. |

That is interesting.. I will test this when I get home.
However, the problem remains. I always use my key FOB to lock and unlock my doors. I never use the latch... Uhm...
I know when I open the lock using my key fob#1, I tend to press it more than once.. sometimes more than 3 times... don't ask why, Im paranoid.. Could this cause an issue?
Maybe this might trigger something in the X to reset the stereo settings.. |
