My wife and I went looking at suv's this weekend. After checking out the MDX the looking was over. She said this is what I want. So wanting to keep her happy, I started the email attack.
I email 5 dealers in the Houston area and am getting not so good Internet replies. We are looking for a Tech Package with the DVD system, but the dealers are coming back with these prices. I'm thinking they need to put the pipe down, the weekend is over.
What should my next step be?
Anyone know a sales guy I can use to cut out all the bs, or is it just something we each have to do?
msrp Internet price
Aura MDX Tech Package / DVD system $46,365. $44,865.00
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Acura MDX-Tech/Entertainment $46,365. $45,690.00
--------------------------------------------------------------------
$44,188 - Tech + Entertainment Package
All prices include destination charge with NO hidden fees!
Acura's TLC Package which includes:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
In my email to the dealers on Sunday I listed my starting price.
I'm shooting for $42000 including the destination charge plus tt&l. |

What was your starting price?
Have you tried TMV pricing on Edmunds? Not a very good example of current real world prices but it may give you an idea if the prices you have are realistic for your area. |

I'm starting at 42 k for the Tech + Entertainment Package with destination charges. I saw someone getting this deal via this link.

I have seen others getting very close to invoice on this website so I though why not start there. I dont think using edmunds prices are close to what you get with a little homework. I'm paid 7 thousand under msrp for my 2005 titan two years ago. Edmunds was at $2500 off msrp at the time. I found my price on Titan talk dot com and used thier help.
So when I started looking for a MDX I did a seach for MDX forums and found this one.
I'm ready to buy when I find a dealer ready to made a deal.

I tried Edmonds, Costco and AAA buying programs, they all started at around $1500 over invoice. I called another dealer, and he beat that by $1000, and gave me a break on other fees.
Since you have options, just call 3 of them, see who gives you the best price and who you like dealing with, and take it from there!
Good luck! |

Probably not a good move revealing your final price right away. They will only go up from there. I would either leave out your price or go to invoice - holdback and start from there. It is the end of the month so it should be a good time to buy. Play them off each other and see what you can get. Let them know you will buy this month if the offer is right. Good luck. |

I don't know about not giving up the amount you want to pay. I'm thinking 42k is a lowball number. They will find I will not come too far off that number. It just becomes a waiting game with lots of email now. I just sent out 3 more emails working on the price. I think I will hit other cities like Austin starting Tuesday.

Got a base '07 MDX last week in Houston for $38,250 (including body side molding but excluding ttl). Let me know if you do better (so I know to get better at the homeowrk)
Other Houston dealers were willing to go down only by about $100 and figured this was the best at this time. |

I'm not having much luck in Houston and I've been trying for a while (although maybe that's part of the problem).
Most of my offers are around $1000 off MSRP but do include the towing package and destination. I would jump for joy at this point if someone would give me the tech/ent with towing for $44,000.
Playing the dealers against each other has sort of backfired - instead of a counter offer, one said he'd be there if I got tired of being "messed with" - and his offer was almost MSRP.
I'd love to hear if you manage to get one for $42,000 (or maybe it'll just frustrate me more :D ). |

I have still been surfing for the best deal and ran across this on edmunds Forums.

I am think if I could get the car for invoice in the north east, why not just buy it there and have it shipped back to me? The guy across the street from me owns a shipping company. I am going to talk to him tonight about this. I think it should cost about 600.00 to Houston. If we buy more than one I bet it would even be lower. So if Houston Dealers are not wanting to deal then too bad.
What do you guys think? |

Using the emails only, and one phone call, best deal I could get was: $40,600.00 plus TT&L. It was an end of the month deal. Today is Saturday 4/28 and Monday would have been the last day of April. Sunday the dealers would have been closed.
If you like PM me and I will tell you who helped me get the deal.
MAYBE at the end of May you could work something like my deal out again. If you are looking now and PM me.
I got the MDX Tech for the 40600.00 plus tt&l, and I am in Houston, Texas.
I have not read of anyone in Texas doing better, but if you did where were you and how much?

| why not just post the dealer's name that gave you the deal? People do that all the time. |
