Hi,
This will be my first time changing the oil for 05 mdx. Would someone let me know how many quartz of oil do I need to use? I'm going to use the synth..oil. Thanks. |

It's listed in your manual.
I usually round off to the nearest quart so I don't have an open bottle of oil lying around. It's safe on most cars to overfill slightly by 0.5 or even 1 quart; just make sure there are no bubbles on your dipstick after the car is running. |

| I have an 01 and I use almost exactly 4.5 quarts when all is said and done. I think it may be slightly higher on the newer X, and I hate to tell you RTFM but that's one sure way of finding out. |

Isn't 10w40 better than 5w30 for newer car? For 05 model, I should use 10w40 synthetic? I know I should read the manual but like checking with you guy first.
Thanks |

For my '03, I use 4.8 quarts exactly.
Regarding weight...lots of previouse threads on this.
Synthetic is always a plus if you want to pay the premium....but stick with the recommeded viscosity.....5/20 on my '03.
I actually just use 5/30 in the summer, and 5/20 in the winter. Since my manual and the oil cap on the car don't agree, this is how I keep both happy.
10/40 is thicker than the manufacturer's recommended spec, and these newer engines are pretty tight on their spec, so thicker oil may not always get to the tighter areas of gap in an engine crank case. |
