Just starting to look at the competition for mid size suv's. Already looked at Mercedes, still like the new MDX better. I am going to run and take a look at the Lexus RX. Is the one that is on the lots now the current body style? Did I read somewhere they are going to change it?

On the MDX I will want the nav & Dvd.

I currently have the 04 MDX touring and love it. Some things in the new MDX I don't like, but still better than other things I have seen.

Comments.

I'd be interested to hear what you don't like in the new version.

It is usefulness interior for me. I am a Realtor and have to carry several items all the time. I have a lockbox key, my phone, my biz cards, etc. All that need to be handy everytime I show property. With the nav system there is no cubby for all that like the 04. In the center console, the 04 has 2 levels. Cards are easy to get to in the top, bottom has kleenex etc. I don't like how the new mdx has the front cup holders and the back seat cupholders I detest. Flimsy and if you have leakage it is all over.

Now you may say not important issues, however I still drive my kids around and I talked my husband out of a certain kind of ski boat due to cup holders.

Pretty much love the rest of the 07.

There are rumors of a redesign in 2008 that should be out in 2009. The current one looks dated and so ubiquitous.

As dj-mdx2 said, I think the RX350 is due for a redesign in 2009, which will be available in 2008. The current RX350 they are selling is the 2008 model.

My wife and I also went to test drive the RX350. We had the choices narrowed down to between the '07 MDX and '08 RX350. We test drove the MDX first and loved it.

I was ready for a grueling decision between the 2 competitors. And we were prepared to be wowed by the RX350 in a comparable manner. That did not happen at all! The RX350's ride was not sporty at all. In fact, it didn't even feel smoother than the MDX over bumps and potholes. Also, the interior of the RX350 felt very minivan-ish and was not nearly as technologically impressive as the MDX. Plus I was interested in the Sport-shift package/option on the RX. The sales rep told me they do not import that model, so I had to special order and wait 4+ months!

Good luck with your choices. Both are great SUVs, but we found the MDX much more to our liking. Hopefully we will own one very soon. :-)

Funny you mention this, this is exactly the reason why my wife would not get the MDX with DVD in 2003 and 2006 because the DVD took up the place of the cubby hole.

Based on how much my wife greatly dislikes my Infiniti for the one level console box and not having ANYWHERE to put a cell phone etc. other than the cup holder, I feel as though it would take awhile for her to warm up to the 2007.

I understand the Honda Pilot is supposed to be the more "practical" choice, but I am still surprised that there are so little practical storage bins in the new MDX, which I still consider a "family" car.

My son's Honda Civic has more storage bins than our current MDX, so I guess the more expensive the car, the less crap you're supposed to carry with you. :p

Well,

I did run by the Lexus, BMW, Jeep and Infiniti this morning. Now I did not test drive any of them. But just based on looks inside, tailgate and storage in the back for my open house signs. It is hands down MDX. I agree the Lexus looks like a minivan inside.

So basically my decision is keep my 04 or move to the new MDX.

Time will tell.

Cal6,
I don't really care which vehicle you get, but-
The MDX has a new "cubby" on the passenger's side of the console. It can be reached by the driver, but its an ungainly stretch. It's pretty big, and has a sliding door.
The front doors now have a very nice cupholder built in. That's where I put the tall milk shakes. I put the compensating Diet Pepsi in the mid-console cupholder.
Don't overlook the door pocket for storage, too. It's big, very convenient, and could probably hold an organizer of some sort.

And there's the biggest compartment of all - the front passenger seat and the passenger foot well that often is the limbo for all sorts of knicknacks.
