or would that be #3. Father's MDX not ours 1st one was installed at around 24,000 miles. Last night all 4 wheels locked up and was flat bedded to the dealer this AM. His is an 04. This does not instill alot of faith in my 06 MDX. Our 02's tranny went at around 45k and was starting to act up at 65k before we traded in for the 06.
My father does tow his behind his motor home, but so do alot of people. Went to a RV ralley once and 5 out of 50 RVs towed MDXs.
Come on Acrura step up and fix this before someone get hurt. |

I've suspected this segment ie, MDX, RX, X5, are all too weak to tow anything large adequately. Didn't know that "being towed" was an issue as well?

"Being towed" has always been a big isssue with automatic transmissions. With all the slipping parts generating a lot of heat while the pump is not working, the transmission is usually fried. |

Just curious, did your father always folllow the pre-towing procedure (shift through all the gears/let run for 3 mins/etc) noted in the manual? |

I have looked at every page that has the word "towing" in the 2002 MDX owners manual. I could have missed it but I did not find anything like "shift through all gears and run 3 min". What year is that instruction for? What page? Or did newer transmissions become even more fussy than the problematic 2001-2002? |

The OP stated that his fathers 04 MDX was towed behind a motor home. In the 04 owners manual it states the procedure I referenced: 2004 Manual Link
It's in the 2002 manual also: 2002 Manual Link |

| And in 2006, Acura withdrew the factory authorization to tow any 2006 Acura behind a motor home. Either people were not following the Toad procedures (Shifting thorugh the gears every day), or the transmissions were just failing too often under Toad. |
