i know this issue has been beat to death but i have approx 60000
mile on my original michelin ct, i have narrowed it down to two tires
1. toyo proxes st, v-rated tire 420 treadwear all season only 97.00
also only 31lbs each which is 1lb lighter than the michelin ct
2 bridgestone hl alenza, much heavier tire, also more expensive
i am not a fan of the goodyear tires

toyo tire is a much " sharper tire " ( directional tread pattern )
hard to find many reviews though, the few that i found have been favorable, anybody know anything about the tires ?:

Apparently snow is not an issue where you live?

i do receive snow, proxes st has a M + S rating, i know this doesn't
guarantee anything but it is not a " summer tire"

Well, the Alenza's are hacks in snow. Might as well walk. I know you're not a Goodyear fan, but I suspect the Fortera Triple Tread, or Silent Armor Fortera's rate highest for our X. Much improved over the Michelin C/T's...not even a comparison in my opinion, and I've owned both.

Really hate GY, huh? Not familiar at all with the Toyos, but might want to look at Pirelli Scorpions, and Yoko Geolanders too if snow is a concern. They both look great, fairly quiet in good weather, and down-right mean in bad weather.

is the gas mileage issue true with either goodyear tire, which tire is better handling in your opinion since
you have had experience with both? thanks for any input

The ct's were really sloppy skins in my opinion. I bought the car with Cross Terrains, and promptly got rid of them with half the tread life left on them. Hated the roll, and lack of traction. I could spin the tires of a standing start with the michelins. Can't budge the fortera silent armors. Very quiet, sticky compound, and stiff with the kevlar, with much better handling. Fatter tires too...look great in the wells. As for mileage, I'm averaging 17 overall, mostly big-city though. Same as the michelins. Friend owns a large non-biased tire place. Says the mileage thing is a myth. I agree. This is my 2nd pair, and I've never had an issue. No flats either. The kevlar really helps....

To do it again, I might go more aggressive due to our long winters. Would try Fortera Triple Treads, or maybe the pirelli scorpions if i have the X long enough. They are snow rated, and look great. Geolanders are also similar. That said, those products are a little noisier. I owned a Grand Cherokee, so road noise isn't reall an issue to me now. -)

Toyos seem to get good reviews...but make sure you compare their numbers against these tires to get a fair idea of how they rate. Just stay away from those Michelins....led the pack a decade ago, but now with all the new technologies geared for the suv market, they are now simply expensive, and old technology w/ low comparison numbers.

Alenza has a better snow rating than silent armour according to comparions on tirerack.com.

Michelin is what Bose stereo is today..big hype. I am considering Alenza's too. Got a quote for $600 for 4 new tires, balancing, allignment, road hazard from a local shop. Firestone will match the tire price but the alignment will cost $69. Also you may get a $50 visa card. Only problem with Firestone is that they no longer have road & hazard. Its been replaced with some other program and it costs $80 for 4 tires and its valid for only 3 years.

You're absolutely right Aruca, sorry Ductman. I was simply thinking Duellers, but I bet they were the Dueller HT's that got all the bad press, not the Alenza's. That said, the Alenza's are only ".2" of a point higher than mine on Tirerack. Not even sure thats a detectable difference Aruca.

Unlike any of the tires we own however, Fortera Triple Treads and Scorpions do have a "snowflake code" on the tire, and score higher than all of them on dry, wet, and snow, but may also be noisey.

Ductman, the alenzas score fine, but if I had to do it again, I'd look closely at the Pirelli Scorpion ATR's. I loved them before I bought the GY's, and they seem to score a 9 on Aruca's Tirerack. Probably a good bet!
