Michelin vs. Bridgestone Tires - Click HERE for Original Thread

I'm getting ready to sell my wife's 2004 MDX to my sister and upgrade to a 2007 MDX base model. I just test drove one this week, and even though we loved it, I didn't think it was as smooth riding as the Tech / Ent. model I test drove in January. (My wife didn't notice the difference.) The salesman confirmed it was Michelin tires that made the higher priced model ride better. According to Tirerack.com, there is a $70 per tire premium on the Michelin over the Bridgestone tires. So, if the dealership would switch the tires, I'm looking at $280 plus mounting and any additional fees. Apparently, Bridgestone makes these tires exclusively for the MDX, so there's no test information available. Does anyone else have any opinion on these tires? Thanks for any information you can give.

There are some members that have reported pulling to the right that has been blamed on the Michelins, if you do a search. Many others like myself haven't experienced this issue.

If you do decide to get the Michelins, make sure they balance them right the first time and that they have a warranty to cover this pulling issue. Have you researched other tires at tirerack.com?

Like you, we've test drove the X on both Mich & Bridg tires. As expected, Bridg tires bounce more & much rougher. We ended up purchasing Sport rims w/ Mich tires. It has been a lil over month, roughly 1,400 miles... no issue with Mich tires.

I bought my MDX from the dealer in RI. I bought base version, but I requested Michelin Tires. The dealer took the entire rims and tires from different vehicle and put them on mine. Try the same with your dealer.
Right after I bought the car I changed the rims to the ones from Sport version. I have a set of base rims with the Michelin tires and TPMS sensors with about 250-300 miles on them. They are for sale if you are interested. Let me know. pjacek2@charter.net

I never got stuck, but I am sure dedicated snow tires would be a better option. The most snow I had this past winter was about 10" and VSC would go crazy but keep me moving.

I don't know about the Michelins but we have a base '07 MDX with the "Dueler H/L 400" 255/55R18 Bridgestones - they are TERRIBLE tires. Their generic highway tread pattern hydroplanes very easily in the rain at freeway speeds on even shallow depths of water (like half an inch deep). The whole front end of the MDX drifts sideways whenever hitting standing water on the road. Thank goodness for SH AWD!

I'm looking for new tires already or a set of MDX 18" Sport Rims with the Michelins (anybody got a set they want to sell me - send a PM). The Michelins have got to be better than these Bridgestones!

Long term, I'm going to go to a bigger tire with a more aggressive tread pattern like the Yokohama ADVAN S.T. or AVS S/T in 285/50ZR18 size.

I believe only the base model comes with the Bridgestones. Tech on up come with the Michelins.

Got my Acura Sport Rims today with the stock Michelins. The deal was set-up by my Acura Salesman. I had asked him when we bought our MDX in August if he ever had someone who wanted to sell their Sport rims to let me know - never expected to hear anything back. Well, he had an MDX Sport buyer last week who upgraded to the 19" Acura Chorme Rims and wanted to sell his Sport rims and tires. $1,400 out the door today! Mounting them on the MDX this weekend. Will let you know how the stock Michelins do in the first tropical downpour on the freeway.

If you are ever looking to buy an Acura in Hawaii, this guy is the best car salesman I have worked with in 30 years. Colin Sato at Pflueger Acura - he is their Internet Sales Manager. I did not know him before we started the purchasing process for our MDX. Now I consider him a personal friend. This is a first for me in buying any car (about 12 in the last 3 years).
