I saw a new GMC Acadia drive by me the other day when I was out for a run. It's a shockingly nice vehicle. I mean really nice!

I'll tell you what wasn't shocking. The very apparent valve ticking from the 3-day-old engine compartment.

Can't the engineers at GM take a page from history, take apart a superior foreign engine, copy the pattern molds, and then put in back together again with a GMC logo? I just don't understand how Japan and Korea can continuously improve on our designs, when the originating domestic engineers can't.

American auto makers are thick headed (which by the way is still hiding in the sand!!) They are arrogant and haven't truly understood the peril that they are in.

All they have to do is put a Northstar 4.6L V-8 in it and they will have the best available engine. Guess they just need to find the same designers to build a V-6.

American automakers have been concentrating on style and looks lately. They are just a couple of steps behind on that. But the bottom line is quality. Some of my friends who had vowed never to buy american cars again because of all the headaches have actually given them a second chance in recent years. Japanese cars have been in the news for more recalls than in the past, thats my observation. I think as japanese automakers mass produce and try to put more cars out the assembly line they may overlook some quality checks.

I get sad everytime I hear layoffs in GM/Ford/Chrysler. The workers pay the price while the management remains bulletproof and continue to make the same mistakes. I guess thats true for any corporation.

Being a loyal toyota/lexus customer I decided to try out Acura for once and hopefully someday I will do the same with a domestic automaker.

My frustration comes from the sincere "want" to buy american. My bad past experiences, and 0-return-on-investment aside, I still really want to buy Big 3. I just can't afford to anymore. Their cars are simply inferior. Even the Koreans have surpassed them in my opinion. My biggest fear...wait until the Chinese start mass-exporting shortly.
