The hood portion of the Acura MDX nose "bra" sucks.
I have tried various methods suggested by the dealer and on this forum and on my last trip it still flapped badly.. Some dust/dirt must have gotten under it and left fine scratches on the end of my hood. I hope they will comeout with some wax.
Question... Does anyone know of a non-acura nose bra (for the hood) that works for the 2007 mdx?
I do not want to use the clear 3M product.
Thanks,
GEorge
PS.. As long as I am asking what product should I try to get out the scraches? |

I always use 3m products. Start with the lighest cut, try their "perfect it" cleaner wax. If that does not work, then use the swirl mark remover (there are two versions for light or dark color cars). If that does not work, then the fine cut cleaner should do it. I have had great results. I also hope they come up with a fix. I find it unacceptable for a 150 dollar bra to flap like that. |

sigp228,
The clear 3M product I do not want to to use is the 3M clear Bra.
I will try those "cleaning" products.
Thanks,
George
PS. The non hood portion of the Acura "bra" seems to be find.. Just the hood portion. |

| I have searched a LOT to find a nose mask for my 07 MDX. My wife drives it on the interstate for a 200 mile round trip during the week and the bugs and rocks are eating up the front of the vehicle. I finally broke down and just ordered the Acura mask. I'm having it "installed" at the dealership next week so that it is treated as OEM for warranty issues. If I have that problem, I'll keep bringing it in until it's fixed (and using their loaner-car fuel in the process!). |

I knew whatya meant. They make great car care products waxes, polishes, etc. What I did is put some velcro under the hood and attached the other side to the bra. That helped some of the flapping and someone once mentioned twisting the hooks at the top to tighten it. The next time I put the bra on I will try it. I agree the bottom is no problem. Its the top. |

Could you describe the velcro thing again?
I can't quite picture what you are describing.

I'm surprised you don't want to do the clear bra. If I had it to do over, that would be one of the first things I'd put on my MDX. I have the Acura bug-flector plexiglass thing and its a POS. The lower profile ones from other companies are better, but I couldn't find one of those when I got mine. With 150K+ miles, the front end of my X has tons of little pits and nicks from dust, rocks, ice, etc.
My next vehicle gets a clear bra from day 1. I have that stuff on my headlights and it is fantastic. I've gone through 3 (soon 4) windshields, but have yet to break a headlight lens. |

| Getting in late on this thread, but have you guys checked out Colgan nose masks for your new X's? I know they made great nose masks and mirror masks for us "oldies." |

I checked this out earlier for this thread and it looks like the latest they offer is 2003.:( |

One thing I have noticed about bras over the years (besides the kind my wife has ;) ) is one thing that helps them flap is getting wind underneat the bra, coming from the front and exiting the rear. Usually over time the bra slips up and the bottom vinyl part of the bra (talking about only the hood portion of a 2 piece) gets exposed, especially if the bra gets wet. What I did was place the bra on making sure it was tight in the front. Then I placed velcro, which was already together and removed the adhesive protector on each side. Then I place them between the bra bottom and the underside of the hood. Then I split the velco and smooth out the strips. Then, anytime I put the bra on, I just line up the velcro on the bra w/ the velcro on the hood underside. It has helped before. I use the industrial type which is plastic and fabric with the fabric part on the bra and the plastic part on the truck.
The other factors are a good "air foil" at the top to place pressure on the bra and also that it is tight. A well designed bra (such as the one on my 03 Cobra was great. Never needed velcro or anyting. If I get a chance I will take some pics and post them. |
