| I have been quoted 2100-2400 $ for 6/120 Acura care in the bay area!! Any better deals in the bay area?? or in California?? I read some place that if you buy a warranty on the net from out of state dealers, it may not be valid in Ca...any truth to that. Thanks in advance to all. |

The $0 ded 6/120 is $1410 here: Link
There was a post here questioning the legality of out of state warranty purchases in CA but I believe it pertains to aftermarket warranties. In any event you are actually purchasing an AcuraCare warranty from American Honda Finance Corp based in Torrance, CA. The dealer/internet site is just facilitating the sale. Hondacuraworld.com has no restrictions regarding selling into CA. |

The link above is 2,110. There is a base charge of $700.
I am looking to order as well but will most likely go through Curray Acura in Florida since Tim is in NY and I do not want to pay sales tax. |

No, for the 6/120/0 it is $700 base + $710 for the 6/120/$0 which equals $1410. |

| My mistake. I have been looking at the 8 year coverage and need to decide within the next 1,500 miles. |

Aside from the 2001/2002 tranny issue, the MDX has been very reliable. Do you really need an extended warranty? Most of the mechanicals are based on proven existing designs (SH-AWD from the RL/etc) and if there are major problems like the tranny issue, Acura steps up to the plate and covers the cost. I'd park the $2K in an interest bearing account if you are worried about repairs in the future. That way you make money if you don't use it. |

I am still on the fence which is why I have not purchased it yet. I have a 2001 Accord V6 (42k miles) that got a new tranny this past week, but hopefully the MDX will be free of the tranny issues of the past.
By purchasing the warranty the frist 2k would be my expense and if something like the DVD drive for the nav goes that is 2k right there and would be even. These items are pretty reliable and have been in use for years, but unlike most I bought the truck and tend to keep vehicles for 5 to 8 years before moving on.
On the Accord other than routine maintence and now the tranny the car has been solid with no issues and hopefully the MDX will be the same.
This thread just made me think about what to do and I have already done the research, I just need to pull the trigger and decide one way or the other. |

You shouldn't have to worry about the MDX transmission. The tranny received a better than average CR reliability rating after it was redesigned in 2003 and has maintained a much better than average rating for 2004/up. The 2001/2002 problems were apparent in 2003. If the problem persisted we would be seeing problems from all model years up to 2006.
I debated buying the warranty for our 2003 MDX and wound up not purchasing one because our previous 3 Hondas all went well over 100K and 6-8 years without any significant repairs. The only thing that concerned me was the tranny problems, but Acura was paying for replacements so it became a non-issue.
Good Luck with whatever you decide. |
