Replacing Radio What Will I Loose - Click HERE for Original Thread

I just made a deal on a used Eclipse AVN5500, iPod adapter, Sirius tuner, CD changer, and backup camera. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what factory operations I might loose? I have a 2006 Touring Non navi. I am hoping it is just steering wheel controls and XM radio. Anything else? Factory sub?

You don't have to lose steering wheel controls, Peripheral makes an adapter for them to control the new HU

Thanks, I saw those. I have even used them before. They work ok but, not great. Better than nothing though.

I'm hooking up the eclipse avn5500 as well. Do we have to bypass the bose amp to make the radio work or just hook it up with the wire harness and we're good to go??

You can get it to work without doing a bypass. You just have to remember to hook the Eclipse's remote amp turn on wire to the factory wire. In my new Best harness, it was a blue wire to the Alpine's blue white wire. This will get you sound but, it is way out of balance. You need a level adapter to make it sound correct. Check out my other thread for pics "Install Help" for more info.

thanks for replying. where can I get this audio leveler and what does it look like. can you show me the link to your other posts

My other thread is titled "Install Help". It is on page one of this forum.

I got a convertor from a local car audio shop. It is a Peripheral Super Ven4. Here is a link to one place online selling it:

There are others that make them as well but, my local place had this one and I wanted one quickly. It is not complicated to hook up. Just a lot of wire splicing. But, it works great and all the noise, pops and hiss I had are gone. It will do until I upgrade to aftermarket amps and speakers.

do you think I can do without this audio leveler or it will have static noise with out it period

slakass have you thought about using the rca output plugs and converting it to the wires for input?? do you think that will work the same as the sound leveler becuase maybe too much watt is comming from the aftermarket radio's output, and the low .5v rca output will be a better source of output.

You can still get sound and loud sound at that without the adapter. But at least on mine, there was too much noise. Some people might could live with it but, I can not stand any unwanted pops or noises.

I am not sure what you mean on the second post. Are you saying using the RCA from the Alpine to the wires on the factory amp? I really have no idea if that would work. The adapter I bought has rca that you can use but, it requires 4 volt minimum. It would not work with my Alpine but, might with your Eclipse.

hey, I was talking about using rca as output into the factory amp. hopfully the eclipse won't have poping noise if so I will try the preamp output. hopfully i'll get a chance to hook the radio this weekend

also I forgot to ask if you know what color wire or where to hook up the reverse wire and speed sensor wire. i'm hooking up a rear camera also

I understand what you are saying. I just do not know if that would work or not.

Maybe someone else can help on those wires. I do not have a need for either. I plan on adding navi via my Alpine Blackbird and docking station but, it has no need for either of those wires.

Thanks a lot, I'll take pictures once i'm done

well i just installed to radio over the weekend. and the sound quality is great. It does not have any poping noise. only thing next to install is my rear view camera. Dont know where to install or start on that one. i will post pictures soon,
slackass
That's awesome. I wish I could have gotten away with that. Mine is working great. I am going to add a Sir-Alp1 probably this week and try to get the Blackbird docking station put in. The trim ring is pretty much done. I keep getting a crack in the ring after it is installed. I think when I bolt the trim piece in, it is torqing it just enough to cause it to pop out a bit. I need to mount the ring and mask the trip computer and try sanding it out. I will take some pics real soon as well.

I'm in the same boat. We lost use of the Bose system and now are faced with either getting a replacement or paying at LEAST $400 to fix the old one, and that price is the floor and it could only go up from there.

Might as well get one with some new technology while we have a reason to.

My question, as a non-techie, is "How does it look"??? I'm guessing that it doesn't fit in there quite as nicely as the factory head with the wood trim in place.

how do i post pictures of the install
