i ordered goodyear tripletread forteras from the tire rack today,
i almost purchased toyo proxes st, hopefully i made the right choice,
i have gotten 62000 miles out of the original michelin ct, but they
have become scary to drive in the rain at highway speeds, amazingly they still looklike they have plenty of tread left, i did not
pick the toyo proxes st even though they were about 60 dollars cheaper per tire, i was afraid that they would be horrible in the
snow even though they were all season rated, lack of sipes in tread, only sipes on outside area , they did look good though

My experience too. Cross Terrains were terrible in snow after the first couple of seasons, regardless of treadware. The compound is old technology...not very sticky.

Welcome to the Fortera club. You may have bought the best all-season available for winter driving. Good looking too. May be a little noisey...let us know. I'm looking for another suv to replace the Honda, and will want to replace the skins. Update this thread on your experience with the TT's.

Same here! I love Forteras - especially during the rain and snow, but they are very comfortable every day as well.

I have these on my Montero and I love them! My wife's MDX is coming to the point where I need to change tires, so I am considering Forteras as well. I am kind of curious to find out what were your impressions when switching from Michelins to Forteras in terms of every day ride.

Congrats again!!!

On my end, the switch to Fortera's was like night and day. I live in ontario, and experience harsh weather year round. I've owned two sets of Silent Armours, and one set of Cross Terrains, and the traction differences were uncomparable. The more aggressive Fortera's fill up the wheel well a lot better too...look so much better!

Which Fortera
Triple Tred or Silence Armour
how noisy does it ride.
Thanks

tripletread, quieter than michelin ct, smoother ride also
have not noticed the " gas mileage myth" either

I have 59k on my original CT's and am ready to replace due to dryrot. The tread still looks good but the slight cracking on the sides tells a different story. My local mechanic said he could do Forteras (didn't say whether SA or TT) for $175/tire including mount/balance/stem but not tax. All told - $750 OTD :-). I could purchase the Silent Armor tires from Tirerack.com and install at Goodyear service center for about $80 less total but will probably go with the local guy for convenience.

Considering I live in the Northeast, is the consensus that the triple tread would be the better all-around choice?

Some of the Goodyear dealers offer buy 3 tires and get 4-th one free. For example, in MA I use a chain called Sullivan Tire. They have that deal. I am pretty sure some chains in NJ would have that too.

I also usually get the Road Hazard deal, where they replace or fix the tire if needed and provide free rotations every 6k miles and free balancing if needed by then. That saves a lot of money and keeps the car driving smoothly.

i saved 52 per tire by purchasing at tire rack, had them shipped
right to the installer, awesome installer, small shop
each tire was roadforced balanced, new stainless steel valve stems
and each wheel was washed after the job was done!!!!!!
go for tripletread if you live in the northeast

I just ordered 4 of these Michelin 4X4 Diamaris for $187 each from Costco, included lifetime rotation, spin, road hazard insurance & installation etc. They are $10 more than the Cross Terraine. Had anyone try these out yet? the front 2 orginals are prettty much at bare bone at 44k miles while the rear 2 probably can last another 5k to 10k. :2:

BTW: Costco has $60 off for 4 Michelin tires till July 1st so it end up about $173 installed for each with all the insurance goodies.

Thanks for the link. It seems like a perfect tire for California without the snow.:1:

It does!!! In 2001 I learned the huge difference between tires in sun and snow. I bought a brand new Mitsu Montero Ltd with Yokohama Geolandar tires in Atlanta, where I used to live. Handled well in the rain, worse when offroading.

I had a trip coming up to my 2 cousins in Montreal, so I bought Michelin CrossTerrains from Costco. Headed to Montreal around Christmas. Could not wait to try the SUV and tires in snow. Finally, here I was at the traffic light in a snowy day with a small car next to me - thinking I will race the sucker.

Light turns green, I hit the gas hard, the SUV starts spinning and sliding. After several screams from my wife and lectures from my Canadian cousins and then moving to MA about 5 years ago, I finally learned lessons of driving in snow and ice:

1. Can't beat the law of physics
2. Having an SUV with 4WD and AWD will not help you that much (if any) for handling in snow and ice. Actually, it may be more dangerous for flipping over. (taller vehicle)
3. Stability control feature is your best friend
4. Tires can save you or hurt you. Michelin CTs were terrible even in slow driving. Trippletreads are awesome though in snow and ice
5. No matter what you have, drive very careful and slow on snow and ice.

It's been a LONG time since I've posted on this site (although I was a 'charter member' back in the day...

My wife's '01 MDX is due up for a new set of skins, after two sets of the Michelins (originals, and one set of replacements) and 112K miles.

After looking at all the reviews and checking the websites (here and others), we ordered not the Fortera TripleTreds, but rather the Assurance TripleTred tires.

They're considered 'passenger car' tires by Goodyear, but are available in the same 235/65/17 size. They have most of the same technology as the Fortera's (minus the Kevlar belts, and some of the 'sipes' in the tread). I hope they'll give her a comfortable ride, in all weather conditions. We'll report back on results.

When you hit the gas hard in snow, no tires in the world will save you, dude. Been in Montreal for 7 years, beautiful city.

Bonjour!

I decided on the Goodyear Fortera Silent Armors. I've had them for a week and a half and have put around 400 miles on them so far. I find them to be equally stable on wet road and quieter than the OEM Michelin's I replaced. They seem to ride a little higher too.

Those Michelin 4x4 Diamaris are awesome, very stable & quiet sofar in dry weather, haven't try the wet weather yet, guess I have to wait till October in LA. For $10 more than the Cross Terraine, it's well worth, These tires are also OEM tires for BMW X-5 & Porsche.:2:
