I called my dealer today to find out how much it would cost to install a Trailer Hitch on my 07 mdx and i was quoted with parts and install it would be $1250. Is that a good price.
I am looking to get this to trailer my bmw at the various car shows that i attend each year. Service said i would need a oil cooler and tranny cooler which is included in the $1250 price.

Few others i found. I need some feed back what you guys think is the best option Thanks.

There's a couple of threads on this topic. I had mine installed for around $1000. The 07 has coolers already, so your dealer is either confused or trying to milk you.

Ask the dealer if he plans to exchange the present coolers that come with the 2007.

Is this the OEM one?

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not sure a front-wheel favoured MDX is a good choice to tow a car and trailer ever, especially over long hauls. A small fishing boat maybe, but a full size trailer and car? That's a lot of work for a full size V8 equipped SUV, let alone a smallish crossover with a historically weak transmission.

In comparison, I was warned by a mechanic at a swap meet not to trailer back a '70 Camaro with my Jeep Grand Cherokee a few months ago. It's 4.7L V8 and rear-wheel tranny to match was surely more capable than my MDX.

I may be completely off on this one. Would love to hear some more feedback on the towing capabilities of these X's.

The Hondacuraworld hitch (aka Tim) is an OEM hitch.

I would ask the dealer what the cost is for the hitch (compare to
$ 594), and what the cost is for labor to install. Then you get a better idea of how much profit that dealer feels he needs to make on this sale.

In 2002, my Acura dealer installed the OEM hitch along with the two required OEM coolers for $ 700 --- this included the prices for the units in addition to labor costs to install. I realize that prices go up each year, but a $ 1250 quote to purchase and install a hitch seems way too high.

On my 2004 the hitch installed with coolers was under $1,000.

I am surprised Tim is asking over $500 for just the hitch.

I would think $100 would be a reasonable installation cost. It is a rather short job.

Cost probably higher than $ 500 due to garnish, etc.

I just installed a hitch that I bought from Tim. Here's what it cost:

Hitch package from Tim: $ 597.95
Installation at dealership: $ 490.00
Ball & drop mount: $ 73.00
------------
Total: $1160.95

Well...you can save money on that tongue and ball. It was only $45 dollars for me new. Not that that helps M. -)

I know I probably could have got it cheaper online, but I left it too late and had to buy from a hitch installer :( Still, I did get an Eckhart ball and mount, which is a bit tougher than the standard U-Haul stuff. I'm pulling a horse trailer, so I wanted something as tough as possible.

I mostly meant that to be tongue and cheek. 30 bucks isn't going to help poor M at all. You didn't get ripped....I expect thats what higher end hitches cost. -)

Installed a hitch from drawtite.com and with wiring kit it came out to ~$250. The '07 is pre-drilled and already comes with the tranny coolers standard. Pulled the boat to the lake this weekend with NO issues whatsoever. The hitch comes with detailed instructions and was relatively easy to install.

We saw the dealer install price and decided that was a last resort.

It was fun pulling up next to a Chevy 1500 extend cab and pulling the boat out of the water with no problems while his wheels were a-spinnin'!

I have 2001 that I put an after market hitch on and it looks great, but I'm not sure how it would look on the 2007 without the modified bumper cover. I'm considering moving up to a 2007 soon and I's like to make this decision on the hitch prior to making my deal.
