The 2007 MDX is such a radical change from the first-generation MDX, I wonder if Acura is selling the new one to previous owners or to a new group of people.

So, what did your 2007 MDX replace?
Squishy
Replaced a 1998 Chevy Malibu.

EDIT: Whoops, 2007 MDX...heh. Sorry guys.

I gave up my Honda Pilot for the new X. Would I be considered as "Same Group" since Honda & Acura are technically the same.
mkaresh
I almost listed the Pilot separately, but the max number of choices was 10. So I had to choose whether to list the Pilot or list the 2001-2003 and 204-2006 MDX separately. I went with the latter to get an idea of how long people tend to hold on to the MDX.

EDIT:

Why?
Because: That's when me gonna git meself the 3rd GEN X. 8-)

What about people that added the 07, like me? I still have an 01 X but I did trade in an 02 RL.
bronxblaza117
^ so that means your MDX replaced an 02 RL right? :2:
drjay
Replaced a 1995 Nissan Maxima

Domestic Pickup. Actually "Pickup" wasn't on the list at all. I don't think you will get too many votes on that one so just count me as "other" (which is also not on the list).

2006 Lexus IS350. Tired of the valve tapping, fitment issues and Levinson problems (fading f/r l/r all the time).
NewVMan
Replaced Volvo XC90 V8.
flytiger
I just added it without any trade-in and I am still driving the old 2005 Camry and sometimes the new X. what do I need to choose?

Well, yeah I did vote that. But the OP, if I understand correctly, is seeking to determine if Acura is trying to capture a new market or staying within the small group of former MDX owners. My reply is sort of ambiguous because I still have my 01 so technically I am in that particular market segment of MDX owners but I did replace another vehicle. So if a research analyst were to interpret the responses, I would not be captured as a former MDX owner, but would be merely lumped into a non-MDX owner that replaced another vehicle albeit another Acura. Does that explain my question? Flytiger is in a similar predicament since he/she did not replace anything and the options do not include that, as they are limited to ten choices.

I was going to write "non-SUV" instead of "car," but didn't and should have. Only a mod can change "car" to "non-SUV" now. Mod?

I knew this would come up, but couldn't think of how to handle it without making the instructions complicated or adding more options.

Maybe just have people note when an older MDX is in the fleet in the comments. I'll edit the OP.

That said, it seems quite clear from these results that Acura is pulling in new people with the 2007.

Sorry, but the X appears to be on a six-year cycle. So make that 2013.

I doubt it. My 02 TL had 3 trannys replaced, and I hear your pain. However my 04 and 06 MDX have been flawless. The 04 has almost 100,000 miles on it. I think Honda may have learned from the tranny problems.

Replaced a 1996 Chrysler T & C. No comparo to MDX!

I replaced an 01 BMW X5 4.4. It had 100K miles and my extended warranty expired. Have really enjoyed the MDX thus far. I have owned it for a month.

2002 Nissan Maxima SE 6spd

Although the Maxima is a bit quicker, the X handles so much better than the Maxima.
wineman5
Replaced a 2004 Nissan Murano. It was a nice ride fo sure.

Seriously considered FX-35 this time around but liked the size and third row of the Acura. Mileage seemed about the same.

Replaced our '04 X. It was doing perfectly fine, but I wanted XM radio, RES, and all the fancy new controls. The more I drive it, the better I like it.

I replaced a 2003 BMW X5 4.4i

It had done 57,000 miles - and even *with* a good warranty, it was getting cripplingly expensive to keep on the road.

I do miss the performance / handling, and even the looks a little.

The MDX is *so* much quieter, softer riding, and generally less tiring to drive though.

The wife replaced an 01 MDX for 07 MDX. I drive a 01 330i sport and would like to replaced 01 Miata with 01 Boxter S or 04 S2000.
hts
Don't have one *yet*, so I didn't vote in the poll, but now that our boys are a little bit older, I plan to get one later this year to replace my wife's 2003 Ody EX-L. BTW, I drive a 2001 330i and 2007 Boxster S.

Traded my '06 TL for the X.

The TL is nice-looking and reasonably quick, but I got tired of the rattles, the road noise and the ride quality. My X rides much better, is quieter, and has some extra "stuff" that the TL didn't.

Had enough of my precious Mercedes ML500 over the course of 4 1/2 years. Just couldn't handle the downtime and $$$ to justify owning it as my primary car. Closed my eye and traded in for MDX. Did the same with my 7 years old BMW 740iL 2 years ago with Lexus LS430. Now there is no more European breed in my staples.

Replaced a 2001 Volvo S60. Needed more cargo space for car trips with the kids. Spouse has been super-pleased with his 2000 Acura TL, so we decided to check out the MDX...

I replaced a 2003 Murano. I almost bought the 400h (I had it on order). The 400h felt like a "slight" upgrade from the Murano (the murano's really nice for a nissan!), but it was hybrid and I liked that aspect for the commute..
A friend suggested I test drive the 2007 MDX while I was waiting for my 400h to arrive. Where the 400h was "This is nice.." or
"I could get used to how the hybrid works", the MDX was just plain "Wow".
and did I mention "Wow"?

I do miss the CVT sometimes. It was nice that the tranny on the murano was in the power band instantly and you didn't have to bog the engine to get it to down shift..
I miss it's logic. On the flip side, I'm learning to make up for it by slipping the tranny into M and dropping down a gear as I start up a long grade..
why wait for the engine to bog when you have complete control? Once you've down shifted, the tranny's grade logic takes over and keeps it from hunting for the right gear.. gotta love that..

My second car is a 2000 Vette.. it's my weekend car that I drive for fun.. It's been sad and alone in the garage since I got the MDX,
it's just so fun to drive that I don't look forward to letting loose in the vette as much anymore.

I replaced a 2001 Chrysler 300m. I never had any issues with the vehicle, trying to get decent service out of the dealership was another story.

We went to the local auto show to check out all the vehicles and the 2 that stood out for us was the MDX and the Infiniti M35. We eventually chose the MDX because it was better able to accomodate our family and it was a much better bang for your buck compared to the M35.

My MDX replaced my Acura 3.2 CL Type-S 6 speed. I miss the car, but havin the MDX and an 06 TL 6 Speed helps...Time to get the TL Type -S though...
