I'm trying to install a second radar detector in my MDX. The first one was stolen because I had it mounted halfway down the windshield below the rear view mirror. It stuck out too much, and some punk smashed my window and took it.
The problem is that Acura put that black sunshade stuff on the glass above the rearview mirror. The suction cups won't seem to stick to it. If i move it to the side, it gets hit by the sun visors.
Any advice? |

PROcrastin8er,
You might want to try using clear Scotch 2" Packaging tape. You can apply the tape over the 'rubber' bubbles and then attach your suction cups to the tape. This allows for a high mounting location almost out of sight. I did this with my install and it has worked great for me. |

cobrajames,
That's a great idea. I wonder though how much those rubber bubbles will effect the radar detectors performace. Technically, you would think they would block some of the incoming signals. Although, since the detector will be pressed up against the glass, it's probably like looking through a pin hole...you can see more the closer you get to the hole.
I'll give it a try. Thanks again. |

| I found your V1 install guide in the forums. The pictures are great. I went out and bought the Add-A-Circuit. Just a couple of questions, though. How did you connect the V1 power cable to the Add-A-Circuit? And did you trim off the V1 direct-wire power adaptor (cylindrical hub for connecting V1 and and accessory), or did you hide it behind the dash somewhere? |

I don't know if I did this right, but I just crimped the heck out of the connector on the Add-A-Circuit with a pair of pliers. And there was plenty of room for the direct-wire power adaptor. I velcroed it to the metal underneath the fuse array. In fact, the labeling is clearly visible in case I want to install a mute button or concealed display. It was all very simple thanks to cobrajames pictures and tutorial.
Skip2it, I'm fairly certain the V1 and most other radar detectors aren't waterproof. The first GOOD car wash or heavy driving through a storm would fry them all. I know they make some units that are meant to be installed that way, but they are much more expensive. My father-in-law just got this system that uses bluetooth to connect the radar and laser sensors in the front and back bumbers to the control unti under the dash. There's very little wiring and no drilling through the firewall. It also cost over $2k. |

| You want stealth, K40 is the way to go. The sensor mounts behind the grill and works via Bluetooth to the hidden receiver. You can either use the pods (small stick on units that mount just above the IP with lights and piezo speaker) or have the lights actually done into the instrument panel itself. There is an optional rear sensor as well as laser diffuser. |

| dont want you mounting them behind anything tinted, etc.. Guess its harder to detect the signal. And the other part - with Valentine it does the front AND back from the same unit, so you want to have an unobstructed shot out the back also. Everyone has their own needs and tastes, comfort levels, etc., but for me Valentine-1 is the way to go. It has saved me more times than I can count from the front, sides and back.. Of course Instant-On Laser is the hardest to find since it doesnt come on until its aimed at you , etc., but if you travel in a pack of cars so that someone is in front of you up the road and the radar comes on at them, the V-1 will detect it and hopefully save you a contribution to the retirement fund... Good luck! DanF |

| holder that is suction cupped to the glass, so that bad people dont see it and want to steal it. You cant leave anything of value in the car any longer, cause someone is always looking to separate it from you. A friend of ours, left her old Pathfinder running in the garage for about 30 seconds and someone took it, one morning. It was such a crappy vehicle that they just drove it 30 miles and parked it in a church parking lot.. Oh, of course, they took her laptop, purse, etc., license, bank cards, etc,, basically just ruined her life until she can stop all those things and apply for all new stuff.. Geez, .... DanF |
