I've had my MDX since September 02 and generally have had no problems, except for the dingers caused by Mrs. LL.
I'm at 75K miles, have changed the oil regularly and the brakes 2 times already (wife does alot of local driving with the kids).
But as for major problems (knock on wood), nothing really to talk about. Only problems were of my own doing, ie. driving in very deep sand on the Outer Banks. My only major gripe would be the service at the local place which is nothing compared to BMW (I'm probably spoiled).
Just wondering what the long term review of my other MDX owners. Eventually, I would like to trade up to the newer model but maybe in a few years. |

| I'm pretty sure mine is not the oldest on the board, but its up there. I bought it in April of '01 and it has 155K+ on it. Tranny replacement at 85K (cost me $1000 in labor that Honda refused to cover). Other than that, mostly maintenance items but a few minor problems (never bad enough to strand me roadside). My son turns 13 in November. I'm starting to think that he may end up driving this car. As much as it pains me to think of giving a 16 year-old a car, it will have 225K on it by then so it sure won't have a lot of value left if I wanted to sell it. Lets hope the current tranny makes it that long. I am looking forward to him getting his license for one reason though. I can't wait to make him do the driving on the way to Tahoe so I can work/snooze/watch movies. I figure he owes me at least 75 rides to Tahoe by now. |

Boy, this is an easy one!
I bought mine October 6, 2000
First day that any dealer was permitted to sell the MDX.
But "only" 146k miles on it. I am guessing there are others with more miles, easy. But maybe not original owner. Kinda unusual for folks to buy 'luxury' cars and drive them into the ground.
Did it with a 1990 Q45 (245k miles)
82k in the BMW M5....
what's next?
How's everyone doing?

| Maybe not usual, but very smart IMHO! That is the way to do it. Get the car you really like (love) and drive it as much as you can! |

Got mine in July 2002, almost 5 years ago
No problems and always have taken it to the dealer for service.
Currently has 115,000 km or roughly 73,000 miles |

I heard there's a really nice new 2007 MDX over in the East Bay that will probably be for sale and in perfect condition in about 3 years. :2: Since the owner has no children the car stays perfectly clean.
Actually, I've thought a little about what I'd get if I had to buy a new car right now. And I'm not sure what the answer is. I'd love a Hybrid wagon or SUV as long as it had AWD. I'm a total Honda bigot so I'm hoping we have a Hybrid MDX by the time I need a new car. If today, I'd consider Passat 4Motion Wagon, Scooby Doo Outback/Legacy Wagon, Lexus 400h...??? |

Don't forget the upcoming Highlander Hybrid AWD (nominally due to rear electric motors) with its 270 HP and lots of new options and standard backup camera. |

Ditto.
Just hit 60K today.
Plan on keeping the X a full 10 years before replacement becomes an option. Am looking around for a possible replacement for the '01 Camry (at 80K) but it's such a reliable daily beater. Cars I'm looking at are the new TL, but may wait til '09 comes out in fall of '08 with new body style; also looking at the Infiniti G35 coupe (lots of moolah though) and Infiniti G35 sedan. Toughest thing would be having to give up not having a car payment. |

Hello to another Oldtimer  :1: The new G35 sedan is very sweet; I hear you about the car payment though  Take a look at the new Altima probably a better deal than the G35 - Nissan has put a heck of a pakage together. |

I have a 2002 MDX that I purchased in Nov. 2001. I currently have 117.5K miles on it. I have been very happy with my "X" and I hope to not even consider a replacement vehicle untill I reach 200k or Acura makes a hybrid "X".
list of previous and current maintenance issues inclue:
- warranty replacement of tranny at 35K
- clogged a/c filter that made a periodic and unmelodious saxophone sound
-currently getting an oil leak repaired
-working with dealer to locate right rear suspension, pickup truck-like noise
If you have any thoughts please let me know! |

We bought our 2001 MDX in early November 2000. We have 110K miles on it, and it has NEVER been in the shop for anything other than brakes or tires. Certainly it has never had any un-scheduled maintenance of any kind.
Best vehicle we've ever owned.
Only (minor) issues we've experienced with our tour/nav MDX.
1) CD changer sometimes won't play.
2) there's an idiot light in the dash that has been lit for about four years. nothing doesn't work, so we ignore it. |

Greetings to the other ol' timers!
I'm an ol' timer as well, although we've gone thru our fair share of MDX's. Like ardvarkus, we got our 01 MDX a couple of days after first release. It was so new that we were asked to leave ours at the dealership for a couple of days for them to show to customers (we were paid compensated handsomely for it).
Good to see some familiar names on the board coming back to life. I think this one will be in the family for a LOOONNNNG time (as compared to the three other MDX's). By far, our latest one is my favorite.
Happy Motoring!

| I got mine Oct 01. It has 78K miles. No major problems so far except the transmission jet oil recall and the rear AC fan blown-out which I fixed it myself by replacing the thermal heat sensor ($2) using the instructions posted in this forum |

Picked mine up a couple of days after ardvarkus in early October of 2000. The mileage on it has slowed down considerably the last few years as our Subaru Outback XT has been the primary family vehicle and I take mass transit. After a few more months both of us may be on mass transit so that'll cut down mileage even more.
Extended warranty expires in October but with our lower mileage rate we'll probably keep it at least 2 more years and cross our fingers on the transmission.
After a series of more annoying issues the first few years, the vehicle has been well-behaved (knock on fake wood). The usual early issues (radio button recall, seat belt not-a-recall, thud, click/clack, door pillar dings, fast carpet wear, fast seat wear, EGR valve, transmission jet recall, rear view mirror leak, etc.).
It still swallows loads from Costco with the best of them. It acquitted itself very well in the freak Seattle snow late last year/early this year -- better than the Outback which comes with substandard stock tires.
All the best to the old-timers, especially the ones like ard who braved the heady first few months of introduction. |

May 2003 I took ownership and 4+ years later it still seems like a new car to me. I still believe that this is the benchmark vehicle in it's class.
Nice to see everyone checking in with mostly positive stories about their experiences.
Happy MDXing everyone.:1: |

| I got delivery on my 2001 MDX on November 10 2000. I have 98,000 miles on it. It in general has been a good car. All problems really were recall related and handled w/o hassle from the dealer. The biggest of problems was the transmission which was replaced by recall at 51K miles. Just over the course of the last several months the rebuild tranny is begining to have the same problems the orig tranny had. .... interestingly enough w/about the same number of miles on it. Acura last week said more than likely it was the torque converter and would cost $4K to fix. The car is only work 12K .... Does anyone want the OLDEST MDX on this board -- I think it is going to be FOR SALE. |

| Sorry to hear about your problem. |

I am certainly not the oldest - but still going. I just turned 50k miles on a trip last week. No problems at all - but bought an extended warranty last Jan just to be safe. :4:
Good to see all the old timers posting on this thread - hope everyone is doing well. :) |

Paid $1300 with $44k miles on the MDX. It was 48 month/48k mile extension. Not the best deal, but the dealer said they wouldn't guarantee me they would honor the warranty from Tim's company - so I bought from them. |
|
|
| laborlitigator |
| Still that's not bad. Less than a $1 a day for peace of mind. And it's not like you're putting on tons of miles. |
|
|
| texrb |
| I agree - I figured worst case I pd $1300 for peace of mind to fix a possible bad tranny if it goes out over the next 4 yrs & Acura won't pay anything. This warranty is bumper to bumper - covers everything but normal maintenance items. Tim was less by about $150, and I think his warranty went to 100k & 48 months (mine is 48k + 44k or 92k) - but I just didn't want to hassle with the local dealer everytime I may need a repair & they may or may not honor the company Tim uses. I know it's BS & they just want the business, but - all in all I didn't get too bad a deal - like you said - less than $1/day. |

Bought mine in June '02 and no problems until now...as I write this my X is in the dealer's shop having a new (rebuilt) tranny put in. At 83,000 miles, I am delighted to say I bought an extended warranty from Tim a couple of years ago.
Otherwise, I still love the X. |
|
|
| laborlitigator |
| But wouldn't that have been covered under the tranny problem a few years back? |

Huh? |

Meaning, the general recall they had.
Assuming, of course, that you didn't have the warranty. |

A lot of transmissions have been fixed & pd for in whole or part thru Acura goodwill - but to my knowledge there has never been a recall of the transmission itself. There was only the oil jet fix recall. If I am wrong - I am sure I will be told by others smarter than I here :p |

Was one of the first people in Atlanta to get one. When we test drove it, it blew away the Lexus SUV. 80,000m and plan on keeping at least another 5 years.
NO PROBLEMS.
Only issue I have is with a rattle in the passanger dash air bag area. I beleive it is the clamps holding the airbag and am planning to get it fixed during next service. Apart from that its been perfect. I love it.
Was my wifes but I inherited it when we bought the mini van for her as a kid shuttle.
BTW-you guys are getting me worried. I never heard of a tranny recall. Is this for real? Ive always taken mine to same Acura dealer so would be surprised if he did not tell me about this. |
