I am installing an Alpine IVA-W200 in my 2006 touring, non navi. My last MDX was an 01 and I just used the basic wiring harness and everything worked great. Everything is working now except I get no sound. The wiring harness is just the basic Honda harness that plugs in to the factory harness. Am I missing something? Is there something else that has to be done on the 06 system? I thought that the Alpine would just power the speakers the same way the factory radio does. Any thoughts?

Ok, it is not in the W200. I hooked up a test speaker to all four speaker outputs and the speaker plays just fine. There are 3 connectors that plug in to the factory radio and the new harness only plugs in to one of them. Anyone know what the other 3 do? The factory plugs are not allowing the W200 signal to get to the speakers. Please tell me I do not have to run new speaker wire. I knew I would at some point but, was hoping replacing just the head unit would be a simple swap.

Well, it looks like the stock amp may be causing the problem. The only workaround would be tapping the speaker leads after the amp or running all new speaker wire. Both things I was hoping I did not have to do at this point. I may rethink the whole W200 thing.

Success!! I got a response over on the acura TL forum that said I needed to hook the Alpine's amp turn on to the factory harness adapter's blue turn on wire. I guess this turns the Bose amp on and allows the Alpine and Bose to work together. There is another adapter I need to get to allow some balace adjustment in the volume. Right now there are some pops and hiss thru the system but, that is because the volume is unbalanced. I can only turn the Alpine to 4 or 5 and it is loud. I need to get a better balance to lower the noise level.

Anyway, more to come but, it is in. Now comes a trim ring to make it blend in.

Will do!!

I got the trim ring started. I took a Metra kit and am modifying it to work. Basically, cut everything away and just use it as a face plate. I bolted the W200 directly to the factory bracket so it is good and solid. The Metra will use the two screws that go in to the bottom of the trip computer. That and the 3 pins below the trip computer hold it in place really well. I just need to get some Bondo to bond the snap in single din trim ring in place, do a bit of sanding and try to get a color match to the trip computer.

Tonight, I will have the W200 hooked up to the headrest screens. I am also still going to integrate the Vizualogic DVD player in to the system, along with video iPod. Once done, I should be able to play 2 different DVD sources and the iPod video on any of the 3 screens. I also still need to hook up the Alpine Blackbird Docking station and will have full navi on the W200 screen.

Right now, I am using a portable Sirius Starmate hooked up to the W200's aux. input but, I will be switching that to the Sir-Alp1 or the new docking station that allows control of the Starmate with the W200 but, Sirius has not released the dock yet.

Quick update:

I got a Peripheral SVEN interface unit that hooks in between the W200 and the Best Kit harness. It is basically a line out convertor for the factory amp. The unit works great. A lot of wire splicing and trying to figure out where to stash it but, the unit works great. No more pops, hiss or whine. Still not the quality of aftermarket amps and speakers but, it does balance out the Alpine with the factory stuff. The W200 is very comfortable to a volume of around 27-30 out of 35.

The trim ring should be done today or tomorrow. I just have to do some sanding and smoothing out to make it fit around the W200 to allow for proper opening and closing. Sand some more and try to get a decent color match to the trip computer trim ring. I should have it finished and installed back in the next few days.
