So, I'm coming up to a week as an MDX owner now ;)
Some questions...
1. I saw a Nimbus Grey MDX in the Seattle REI parking lot (plate "SPPHOTO") that looked great with tinted windows and the sport boards. I sport running boards now ;)
Are they easy to self-install, or is it less hassle to get a dealer to do it? What's a fair price either way?
2. I know the fuel efficiency sucks, but does it get any better after run-in? I'm getting 12mpg on my first tank, which is fairly gentle "run-in" driving. My old 4.4 V8 BMW X5 got *way* better than this....
3. I've tried burning various MP3 DVDs but the player keeps spitting them out. The handbook is very vague - what format do I need to use to get them to work? (I've mainly been trying DVD-Rs burned as data DVDs with MP3s from within iTunes)
4. I'm thinking about adding a tow hitch so that I can use a hitch bike rack. How bad is the view with the rear camera with a hitch attached?
Thanks!!

1) I am also on my first week. I drive all hills, stop and go. I am at 16.5 with a light foot. I wonder if your first tank of gas was 91 octane?
2) I don't actually own an ipod but I thought itunes only provided downloads in the proprietary apple format. No way your radio will play that. Assuming that you converted them yourself, do they play in a different mp3 player? Also, I am assuming you got the tech package since the base model only will play mp3 on CD media, not DVD media. |

2. Hmm.... I doubt that even the stealer would rob me with cheap gas ;) I'm due a fillup soon, so I'll know for sure
3. I'm using "standard" non-DRM MP3s (rather than Apple's AAC format) |

Just make sure you are buring the CD/DVD as a Data burn.
I have just dragged my iTunes folder in 4.7GB chunks into Roxio and burned Data DVD's from there.
It works well and other than some slowness when first accessing the disk all MP3's play fine.
As for MPG, after 4,800 miles my average is 15.9 70/30 (city/highway).
Not great but then again this thing does weigh 4,600lbs. |

I'm getting an average of 17.5 mpg. My driving is a mixture of twisty roads & hills (Mulholland drive) and freeways at 80mph. Last week, I hauled my horse 1.5 hours each way to a show and got 15mpg. (Trailer = 2000lb, horse = 1400lb)
The backup camera works great with the hitch. You can see the hitch ball very clearly, and it made it so easy to back the car up to the trailer to hook up. The hitch ball doesn't get in the way for regular backing up--you can see it at the very bottom of the screen. |

If you get that kind of mileage hauling a horse around then I am selling my Dodge diesel and using my X !!!
With any kind of decent load on my diesel PU I get 13.5-15 MPG, I can't hardly believe an X would get that mileage pulling a horse and trailer.
(My X mileage so far 15-17 avg) No trailer.... |

I know, I was amazed! The key is that I use a lightweight trailer (Brenderup, 2150lb) and I only had one horse loaded. I also was on freeways almost the entire way, and I didn't go over 65mph. I should also mention that the Brenderup has a "swooped" aerodynamic roof design that's supposed to reduce drag on the tow vehicle.
I used to have a Dodge 2500 that averaged 10-12mpg when hauling. No way I could afford that now! |

Make sure you're using CD-R or DVD-R media, and NOT CD+R or DVD+R media (and that your drive supports burning to the '-' formats) as the MDX does not support + media. Another thing to try is to burn at a slower speed, and don't use your computer during the burn process. Finally, get the best media sold at whatever store you shop at. Some off-brands are OK, and some good brands have lower-end stuff that isn't very good, but the best luck is generally with a good brand's top-end product(s). I've had consistently good luck with Maxell's Gold media. |
