Has anyone else here had their Ebay id hijacked? Some A-Hole got mine this past weeked and placed (so far) 74 bids mostly using buy it now on all kinds of electronics.
If so did you ever find out how they got your id? I am pretty confident it was on the Ebay side of things but just wanted some clarification.
The good news is Ebay caught it and are contacting the sellers (even though they advised me to do the same which I have). Its just been a real pita to go back and email 74 people.
The wife is scared silly that some hacked our computer but honestly I have no reason to believe that.

| That sucks. What did ebay say about it? Do you use other PCs to login at ebay (e.g. work, internet cafes, friends' houses etc.)? |

If I were you I'd still do a Windows update, a virus program update and then scan for viruses. Then I'd use SpyBot followed by Ad-aware SE to clean up any malicious spyware.
It isn't going to hurt anything.
One other thing. If you're using wireless that should also be secured (WPA encryption minimum). I had a client recently have all his usernames and passwords compromised via his wireless as he didn't have it locked down. What a mess that was to clean up.
And if you know all this already................I apologize for blabbing! ;) |

Just a PC from work but I am not really concerned about that one because I work for a financial institution and I am very confident their security is up to par.
I had received a bunch of emails in the past from someone phishing using the Ebay information. I never responded but its obvious they had my email address. I assume it was just a matter of time as the password I used for Ebay was pretty easy (just #'s).
This is why I believe my account was compromised by Ebay and not myself.

Yup.. I know... WEP 128 bit...virus scan etc done...I go the extra mile when away and disconnect the power to the modem and network. No as I have mentioned I beleive this to be an Ebay issue not mine. They caught on REALLY quick to the problem.

| do you ever get those annoying "supposedly from Ebay" messages asking you to click on the link because someone has a question about an item (which of course you don't have on the site) I am sure lots do click on the link wondering what is up and they do put their password in. Unknowingly they are giving their info to some jerk who then hacks your acct. I never click on links from paypal or ebay. If it is a request to do so, I will put the address in my browser bar and go to the site that way and see what is up. These scammers are getting more clever. Good luck with your dilemma being solved in a timely fashion! |

| If you don't care about your rating, which is probably shot now anyway, I'd just close that account down and open another. Then you don't have to deal with all that negative feedback that's bound to crop up. |

Yeah... I am pretty much resigned to that. Ebay did say they would remove any negative feedback from my profile though. I am just tired of getting emails from sellers who are new in '07 with 1 feedback threating me with things like "oh you will pay for this" etc... |
