...and looking to add an amplified subwoofer tube to the stereo system. I've seen a lot a cheap PYLEs on ebay, along with some others, Are PYLEs any good? Can anyone suggest a brand and model that will give good crisp bass?

Thanks
slackass
Pyle is entry level at best. A lot of people use their stuff and are very happy with it but, it is cheaper for a reason. Bazooka is the king of tubes. They have been making them a long time and pretty much are the best tube sub.

What about RCA?

If your looking into getting some good bass, I would highly recommend spending a little extra cash to get something good. I would personally go with JL Audio simply because they make some of the best sounding subs on the market with the proper amplification they sound great. A good audio system will set you back a little of coin but I would rather have a good clean sound than pay for something cheap that would sound bad. Look into some local audio shops and see what they can do for you. Also you might want to check out this site http://www.crutchfield.com/S-vl3z0K...up.asp?g=208250

Don't waster your money on pyle.

Consider this one. Much more money though, but is probably one of the best self powered systems out there right now. It's a rebadged tymphany product.

You weren't kidding when you said MUCH MORE MONEY...thanks for the suggestion to, but That might be a bit much just to get bass upgrade which is what I really want. I guess PYLE's out of the question.

what would be the recommended wattage for the sub? I've seen 100, 200, and 500. I dont need to be blowing out my windows or driving around with the whole car rattling.

Thanks guys.

What's your budget?

Infinity also makes decent self powered subs roughly around the $200 range. You will still need to buy a power wiring kit, rca, loc, etc. Sure you still want to upgrade?

I am currently using 2 MTX amps( a 4 channel and a 2 channel)and a 12 inch mtx subwoofer.I also replaced my stock speakers with polk 6.5 speakers.

I bought or won the 4 channel MTX used on ebay for $60.00 with shipping included. And I had the 2 channel from my old car. I saw a 5 channel MTX on ebay for a reasonable price.

I too felt the same way as you. The polk door speakers has more bass than the stock subwoofer. And when I connected it to my amp, It brought up a notch (more like a mountain).I tried to install a 10 inch woofer on the stock woofer location. I did find a 10 shallow Blaupank woofer and tried it . It rattled the metal frame and made a lot rattling noise outside. And the main thing,IT DID NOT SOUND RIGHT.Luckily, I still had my 12 inch MTX sub in a box . I connected that and now my audio system sounds complete. IMO,The location of the factory subs limits the driver to hear and feel the bass of the sub.

Thanks for your responses...I have been looking into what infinity has to offer, and they're not bad at all. I will do some more shopping around and see how much it will all come up to with installation.

I was just wondering though, if I just add a pre-amp sub, and nothing else, what would the difference be like? I am thinking of changing my door speakers to either the polk, or the infinity using the instructions on this site. I'll see how much of a difference it makes, and then decide if I'll need to ad a sub or not.

I think you will see a huge difference in an aftermarket sub compared to the factory one. It would really add some good low end. If you are just adding it to the factory system, I think you could get a really good sounding system using the factory speakers and head unit and an aftermarket sub and amp. The factory Bose stuff is really not that bad. It suffers at really high volume levels but, with the add-on sub, it would sound much, much better.

That would make a big difference!!! But the sound will not be even enough( Too much bass and not enough highs). When I replaced all my door speakers with polks(DB651) , it made enough bass while I was using the stock radio power. I got those speakers for $150.00 bucks( for all 4 door speakers). It was buy one and get the pair 50% off. IMO, the door speaker upgrade is well worth it compare to my stock alpine speakers.

when you installed your stereo system did you just remove all of the bose system? such as the bose amp? cuz i keep finding that you need a special converter to add a aftermarket amp or headunit when the car has a bose system.

You only need the convertor if you are putting in a new head unit and want to use the stock amp and speakers. And even then, I know one member did not have to use the convertor, but I needed it. If you are adding new amp or amps, then you do not need the Bose amp at all. You run rca's straight from your new head unit to the amps. You will still have to run new speaker wire from the amp to the speakers or tap the factory speaker wires after the Bose amp.

I got a decent bass improvement but swapping the regular speakers with 4 way Pioneers and leaving the sub alone. 2002 btw.

What was the model number of the Pioneers that you used?
devil421
I put the info on the speakers in this thread:

Im sure the model numbers have changed by now but knowing Pioneer they probably are just slightly different.
