| I actually thought that one would have to pay a certain fee on a monthly basis to be able to use the navigation. I thought it is like buying a house with an alarm system set up and one would have to pay monthly for the monitoring. |

There's no charge to receive the signal from the GPS satellites so you can tell where you're located.
There are other services, which can monitor devices installed in your car which themselves receive GPS signals, which you have to pay for. Those devices which can monitor your teenager's driving in real-time - there is no fee for the device to receive GPS data, but there is a fee to make that information available to you remotely on your PC so you can see what your kid is up to. |
