I have a 06 MDX that I accidentally damaged the edge of the rear bumper sliding my grill box out. An area about half the size of my index fingernail was removed along with a much small scratch about two feet away in the same location. 2 autobody shops quoted me around $450 to repair as they said the area would need to be sanded, painted, and the whole bumper clear coated. I am pretty sure that a Honda Pilot tailgate plate would hide almost all of the area as it pertrudes beyond the edge of the bumper slightly (see picture). Has anyone ever installed the Honda Pilot tailgate plate on their 06 or earlier MDX? Is there any aftermarket provider for mdx rear tailgate plates as I would rather go that route than having somebody take a chance in messing up the clear/paint and not looking as good as the factory.

I'm not sure what you are showing us. Is the back protective piece chipped? Is it showing the black plastic underneath? I would just get some touch up paint and call it good. Looking at my bumper and all of the chips in it, I wouldn't spend too much to fix it as I think the bumper is a chip magnet. YMMV.
if you are dead set on fixing it, you might see what a new bumper would cost painted. I would think it would be about the same $ as repairing. Good luck. |

| Yes, the back area on the edge is chipped. It is the size of a penny, though. I noticed that the Pilot top black plastic piece actually extends further out and covers the edge of their bumper. I was wondering if the two pieces would be interchangible on the vehicles. |

It couldn't be very expensive to replace, if you're willing to remove the rear bumper cover yourself.
You could also try Zaino's Tire Black- it's a a milky white liquid that turns this piece solid black. I use it on all the exterior vinyl pieces. |
