Hopefully this will give some hope to those who have yet to get their X into the shop for the transmission issues.

I brought mine ('02) to the shop (White Bear Acura, MN) yesterday armed with related info from this site and ready to fight.

After 45 minutes I expected a laundry list of issues, I got the opposite. Basically they looked at the transmission, saw it was faulty, called Acura who said they'll foot the bill for the new one, and called Enterprise to get me a rental car (the dealer was out) on Acura's tab.

Now, to me, that's great service! I don't take my car to that dealer for routine maintenance. I handle oil changes, tire rotation, all other fluids. So I have very little contact with this dealer at all. I was very surprised that things worked out this way. But Acura kept a customer. I'll buy another when either of mine dies.

How many miles were on the MDX when the transmission went bad?

...they give you a warranty with your "new" tranny. The duration of which will really show how much Acura, and your dealer, cares about its customers. If it's Acura's standard 12/12 ask if the dealer will extend it to 3yrs/30K miles. They might say no, but what do you have to loose. Let us know what happens.

I'd say it must have been 70K miles or so. Right now we're at 77K.

I'll ask for the 3 yr warranty. I'm also going to ask for a price reduction on the rear AC issue since it's a known TSB.

I'll post back to let you know.
