Our pool has an underwater light in it. The screw that secured it rusted through and the unit is now loose.
Question is, do I need to use a special screw and should I be worried about the electrical in anyway? |

ALWAYS use stainless screwl in and around water. Reduces the rust potential greately.
Whether or not you have an electrical concers depends upon the installation. If the screw broke a water tight connection I would be concerned. If the light is hanging by electrical wires I would be concerned. Regardless it cannot be good. Replace on first priority.

Your pool light bulb is incased in a water tight assembly and the screw that rusted out on you simply holds the assembly in place. My son owns his own pool service and we have replaced my pool light several times in the past 10 years. I agree that you should us a high quality stainless steel screw as I have never replaced my original screw and my pool is almost 20 years old. |

| Some of the brats pulled my light out of it holding. I just went under water with a screw driver and tightened it back up! Its always something owning a pool..... |

I agree...
When you replace the light, see if you can get an LED light, they will last for ever, practically. |

| I replaced mine with the ones that change colors (rotate) and have never had issues with them. I shouldn't being I paid an arm and a leg for both the spa and pool motor lights, but it is nice at night ! I'll see what the name of the product company is..... |

I just had my pool put in last year, I elected to go with the LED system. It is pretty cool! You can set it to one of about 8 colors, or you can have it slowly (or quickly) transition from one to the next.
I am not sure if you can replace it without draining the pool, since this needs more than a light bulb. |

That sounds like the same set up I have. No you do not have to drain the pool to pull the housing unit out etc....simply loosen the botton screw and the whole unit will float to the surface if you let it, then from there is where the electrician does his/her majic.....
Do you have a compool 3400 control unit in your house to control spa, light, turbo etc.....? :1: |

I have a an Aqua Logic system (owned by Hayward).
There is a panel outside with a digital readout, it controls all the functions (filter, valves, salt, lights, etc). I then have a remote that sits on the counter in the house that displays the same information and allows you to do all the same functions wirelessly.
It also has a remote that floats in the pool. I need to get a power valve actuator for the waterfall, right now you have to manually turn a valve to turn it on and off :(
I didn't get a hot tub, I live in Phoenix, they aren't all that useful here. My pool is 90 degrees right now :2:
One thing I did do, which I highly recommend, is put a table in the water. I had a table, bench and petastals built into the pool. You can hang out, drink, and play cards in the pool... kind of nice.

I thought about doing that on the waterfall, and around the edge, but they literally wanted an arm and a leg for it, so I passed.
Cool feature though! |
