Hi
I have a class 3 hitch that I've only used for a bike rack so far.I'm thinking about buying a trailer to haul a hotrod on . The total weight for trailer and hotrod would be about 3800 lbs. Do I need to add the tranny and ps coolers? If so is the acura ones any better than aftermarket ones? Why a ps Cooler?
thanks |

You can use any coolers you wnat to, but if you use a non-Acura part, Acura can dispute any warranty claims resulting.
Acura says its mandatory that youi install coolers to tow. Again, if you don't, it would be easy for Acura to dispute a warranty claim.
Both tranny and PS coolers are intended to remove heat from teh engine bay, as much as they cool the individual trans and PS systems. The later MDX's have their first stage cat converters right at the end of the exhaust manifolds, which adds to the heat.
I can tell you that the heat radiates out from below the vehicle after towing a light (2,000) pound load, even with the coolers. After experiencing this heat on my ankles, I've had misgivings about heavier towing in the summer. |
