| I was at a truck accessory store the other day and the sales person said that someone "he couldn't remember who off the top of his head" makes a bull bar for the MDX. He even said he installed one not to long ago. I would have gotten more information but he was pushy about me putting money down to order one even though my MDX doesn't arive till december. I will try another store soon and tell you what I find out. |

I was looking at Waag as well. I haven't checked with them lately, but the last time I spoke to them, they said mid-Sept. They also make a rear bumper guard. (kind of like a Bull Bar for the rear). I think it would look nice along with the rear tail light guards. Anyone have any thoughts on the rear bumper guard. Check out their web site, they have a picture of one on a Lexus RX300

| I definetly would like the rear bumper gaurd on the MDX, I've seen them on the Lexus and the M-B ML's and like the look. It will make people really careful paralelle parking behind the truck. |

Manik is the only manufacturer at this juncture. I tried WAAG ( I actually think their design is more pleasing, and I have a perfectly great looking Manik GG on my Montero), the person that answered claimed that WAAG has "absolutelyly no plans to build one for the Acura MDX!" Bizarre considering that all 60,000 manufactured this year are almost all sold! Maybe if more folks called WAAG they would reconsider: 1 800 492-2452
(mesa with nav/touring/fender flares/ hitch/have ordered Manik GG in light of what WAAG just said.) |

| I saw an MDX with a grill gaurd today and it looked really good, I'm suprised I haven't seen anyone post pics of their MDX with the Grill Gaurd Installed. |

Just got off the phone with WAAG and they said the MDX applications are slated for delivery by years end. They are wrapping up the Tribute and Liberty stuff now. (and the Liberty is brand new!)
Keep calling them, they seem interested in the demand. |

ok, first time poster. just took delivery of my 01 MDX this Monday. Perhaps I should have waited for a 02, but then again, I need it now and cannot wait several months.
I live in a metro area and it is clear that I need some type of bull bar just to protect the front - the bumpers around here get bruised pretty badly (Washington, DC Metro area).
I followed the links below and the bull bars look OK - does anyone have a picture to post so I can see it on? Also, do I need anything to cover the back?
I guess black would be the way to go with the dark green MDX
cheers and glad to join the club,

sven,
Welcome to the board, and congrats on getting your ride. I look forward to seeing pics when you add the bull bars. |

doesn't anyone have a good photo of a MDX with some type of bull/safari bar/brush guard/kangeroo cathcer - whatever you want to call it!?!
I talked to a company that provided Manik for MDX - $399 plus shipping (total $449), but I hate to ordered something without having had a decent look. Also, the Manik is supposively easy to install - no drilling required - but how hard is "easy"?
Very curious and impatient

Just got this email reply from Westin Automotive:
Thanks for the email. Unfortunately at this time Westin does not have plans to build a Safari Bar or brush guard for the 2001 Acura MDX

That's really sad, cause I do like Westin's Safari Light bar.

I read that someone voiced concerns regarding the impact of bull bars on the vechicle's airbag sensors. I talked to the service dept of Pohanka Acura, VA (where I bought my MDX) earlier today and they said it wouldn't affect the performance of the airbags. If there is a significant collision the bars would simply be pushed into the bumpers where the sensors are located and that would release the airbags. I don't think that there would be any delay or concerns here.
Have anyone heard anything different? |

Sven,
I found a post on a BMW X5 forum regarding this subject:
http://www.bimmer.org/x5/messages/a...00w20/5695.html
Here is also an excerpt from the ARB web page:
http://www.arb.com.au/
"With an air bag equipped vehicle it is essential that the vehicle's crush rate and, therefore, air bag triggering is not altered when a bull bar is fitted.
In a collaboration with Monash university & Autoliv Australia, ARB has invested heavily, and conducted extensive research and testing to determine various methods of mounting bull bars that truly offer vehicle protection without affecting the crush pulse.
To ensure compatibility we assess each vehicle's frontal crush characteristics, then replicate the crush rate into the design of the bull bar & its mounting system. By using this method we achieve maximum possible vehicle protection without affecting the crash pulse." |

I just spoke with a tech representative at Manik and he forwarded a service memo made for aftermarket resellers.
There is no significant difference made to the rate of air bag deployment by installing Manik Brush/Grill Guards (and similar bars which bolt directly to the frame). The memo goes on to explain how the Bar installation is designed to be away from the sensors so as not to negatively impact (damage) them.
It further explains that the Air Bag Systems are activated by inertia (they monitor "G" forces being applied to the driver and passengers in the event of a frontal impact) similar to seat belt systems and do not work on front-end deformation in an impact (referred to as "contrary to popular belief").
They state they have never had airbag deployment be an issue in the tens of thousands of bars they have sold.
I am very happy to have a green light on installation for myself.
I hope this helps anyone else concerned with safety issues.

Did anybody install the manik bull bar on his own?
Just got mine, the instruction is to remove the bottom sump guard. Do you put it back on? |

Yes, we hope to, but I do not have any timetable. Hopefully after the first of the year and yes,
we will have a smaller model for this vehicle. |
