MDX 2002/Touring
I got 2 surprises today.
1) the transmission on my MDX died: it started slipping in both 2nd and 3rd gears, refused to go into reverse, the engine check light came ON, and the D5 indicator started blinking like crazy. Pretty much as reported by many others here and elsewhere.
2) After I limped back to the mother ship (Kearney Mesa Acura - San Diego) for a diagnostic, I got a call 2 hours later to tell me the tranny was toast. But - Acura will foot the bill completely and give me a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty on the remanufactured transmission. Yay! i'm a lucky dog. |

Great news!!! Glad you had such a positive experience.
Can you share:
1) How many miles were on your MDX?
and
2) Were you a pretty regular maintenance customer with Kearney Mesa Acura?
These two questions also seemed to be factors for other owners, so your input will help the next person. |

My MDX had 63,075 miles when I pulled into the dealer this afternoon.
I had done all my maintenance at the same dealer, including oil changes (can't beat $25 and a loaner). I had also made mention on at least one occasion, at around 45K, that the transmission had seemed reluctant to go into reverse on a couple of occasions, but I don't think that had been entered into the database.
I think you're right, at least in part. The regular visits to the Acura dealer probably helped, but the service advisor already knew this was a widespread issue; he'd actually read this forum, so maybe Acura is stepping up more often. Also, I had less than 70K - there are a number of components that impact transmission function that are listed under the Emissons Warranty, which is good for 7 years/70K or 8 years/80K, depending on the part.
Still - I feel lucky. |

Sounds like I am in an early stage of that similar transmission problem. The gear is not shifting smoothly like it used to at 45-55Mph. and the car is pulled back and forth. At higher speed, it seems to operate normally. The engine light does not come on yet.
Any thought? |

If there is a problem, there should be a "pending code" you can retrieve via a code reader. |

| Sounds exactly like my problem. The fault code was "P1750 - clutch pressure failure". |

i had the same thing done with my 2001 MDX(70,000mi) a week ago.The dealer is Ferman Acura in Tampa, FL
$0 + free TSX for a loaner for 2 weeks.
QUESTION: did they put the oil jet kit that was done for the prevoius tranny recall? Mine is not there anymore. I don't know if thethey just rerouted it. Thanks |
