Since we purchased our X in 2003, I've wanted to add the fender flares. I always thought it gave the car a nicer look from all angles.
However, since the dealer wanted $800 for them, and they didn't offer it in a matching color, I passed on the accessory....until recently.
I had been checking the on-line sites and eBay to see if the prices had come down recently. To my happy surprise, not only have the prices come down (easily found for $500 and a few for around $300), I also noticed that some sellers are offering to have them painted to your liking ......SCORE!
Well I found a set on eBay for $300, brand new, Acura made, and painted in Midnight Black Pearl. They were listed as fitting any of the older body style 01-06. I made the deal with the seller and looked forward to their arrival.
When they finally arrived, I couldnt wait and spent till late into the evening installing them. It's actually not a difficult job at all, just time consuming. Well, things were going great and I was down to the last two pieces, when, UH OHHH, these don't seem to fit quite right :( .
After trying every which way but sidways, I did more searching on line and found that THERE IS A DIFFERENCE between 01-03 flares versus 04-06 flares. Holy smokes....I figured I just threw away $300 and 4 hours of time.
Well I must say, the seller ended up being the most honest, sincere, bend over backwards person I had ever met. Not only was he super-apologetic. He volunteered to send me another set specifically for 01-03. Also, since the 01-03 did not come color matching, he had them sent to a shop to have them painted properly before sending. THIS GUY EXCEEDED ALL EXPECTATIONS in rectifying a bad situation.
So last night I recieved the new set, painted up, and looked great. Again I couldn't wait to get them on, so I pulled a late nighter removing all of the prior set which had not fit 'quite right', and installed the new set.
Long story short, having done it twice, I am not an expert on installing Fender Flares. And it is everything I expected in terms of looks. They have definitely freshened the look of the car for me.
Lesson learned though...01-03 Flares are not the same as 04-06....always check part numbers......and be very thankful for incredible honest sellers :D |
