Hi,
I wonder whether anyone else has seen this problem. I have a 2002 MDX. Just suddenly, the rear A/C stopped working.
I can press the Rear/Manual A/C button on the console and its green LED comes on. Then I can see the LED come on on the rear A/C console, but the blowers never come on. I move the dial all the way to coldest and try both upper and lower buttons, still nothing.
I checked the fuse (30 amp #11 in the main fuse box) and its fine. I even tried swapping its 30 amp fuse with another fuse in the same fuse box, and still nothing.
Could this be a real problem in the A/C system? I am hoping not to have to invest big bucks into this.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve |

Hi,
Just a brief followup. I contacted Tim at HondaAcuraWorld and he sent me the TSB. I followed the procedure and sure enough the transister assembly is bad. I ordered a new part (about $75 with shipping) from Tim, a great guy to deal with.
This is way cheaper than paying the dealer (since I am way past the end of the warranty period as I have over 95000 miles on my 2002 MDX) hundreds for diagnosis, the part and installation. It took me less than 10 minutes to remove the part, test it with a volt meter and determine it was bad.
This sure is a great forum.
Thanks again,
Steve |

WOW, you couldve just bought a transistor for like .75 cents and like $5.00 s/h...and fired up the soldering iron and swapped out the transistor and your wouldve saved $70 bucks!!
It too wouldve only taken you 10 mins.
if your current one goes bad next time just buy a transistor. |

This just happened to our '03 MDX with ~58,000 miles. I take my X for service quite often at the dealership and asked them about the rear a/c not working. The service mgr mentioned a high probability that it was the transistor for the rear ac blower. They found this to be true after testing and replaced it pro bono/good will/free. :2: I was very happy considering I could have had to shell out ~$250 for parts and labor. In the meantime, they gave me a loaner ... a new '07 MDX. Quite tempting ... perhaps another couple more years.
Do post the TSB. |
